Description We usually see Spidey in his classic all-action poses. But I wonder what it is like when you just want to chill out and you can pretty much go anywhere in the city, take a breather and enjoy the view. This is a sketch which I hope will become a bigger peice at some point..

I'm happy with Spidey, but I was hoping to get some feedback/suggestions for the buildings which I'm not too sure about...I'dlike to have everything sorted out in my head before I commit to the bigger drawing...

I think this one looks great. The only thing that doesn't look right to me are the silhouette buildings in the background. I can't be certain whether or not they're wrong, but they look like their tops don't follow the perspective of everything else.

yeah you could be right. they're supposed to be very distant, in which case normal perspective rules don;t apply. but yeah, because of their size, they don;t look too distant... thanks for that...

You've got a knack for the perspective and building thing. Stick with it. It's great.

Thanks a lot for saying so! I think I may tidy up the buildings on this one. It has always been a fave of mine but I never got beyond an initial sketch.

Don't sell yourself short man, most people wouldn't even bother with backgrounds, much less be good at it, as you really are. And perspective and foreshortening doesn't come easy for many artists.

Thanks for saying so. I have always tried to show characters as if it was a snapshot of their life and so backgrounds are absolutely required. Initially it was a chore (just to complete the pic) but then I realised that backgrounds and perspective can be used to convey a mood or create that sense of 'WOW'. I think it's interesting also, not only to show characters in a new poses and situation, but also from new angles and viewpoints. Nice to know that's appreciated, it makes the whole thing worth the effort!

Well I really love the idea and I hope you'll made something bigger with it. I really like the using of the three points perspective here, but you'll have to use a rule for doing the "true" piece of course. The sole thing I may critic is the choice of Spidey's posture, he doesn't seem enough relaxed for me.

To draw the buildings, don't hesitate to use reference pics, and don't let the moon attached to the building on the left side.

It's a great idea who deserves a big fave ! I'm eager to see the following !

Thanks for the suggestions. I have to admit that using reference pics for buildings is something I have to do to improve my Spidey backgrounds. Till now I've just improvised. Appreciate the feedback!

re, Spidey's posture: do you have any suggestions?

Yes ! The most important for me would be to make his shoulders lower. He seems to hold the arms to stick the wall, but as you surely know, he doesn't need to use his hands, he can adhere with any part of his body, so the back is sufficient. You could let his arms along his body, or cross them, or make him read a newspaper.... he wouldn't fall !

Using reference pics is very common in comic art. They often use 3 D models too, taken from Sketchup. I'll try to use it one day, but I don't like this idea, I prefer learn the perspective and do the things with my hand as long as I have enough time to do it. I'm not obliged to give 20 pages a months either

I need to draw a Spiderman too, or a Daredevil, I'll try to do something as vertiginous as you did

See you
