The age gap actually isn't that big.
If I remember correctly, I saw a comment by StudioFelidae a few pages back that Venny was only 10 moons and Midnight 4, thus resulting in them being pretty close ages!

Actually, the sizes are pretty realistic, haha!
Because cats above the age of 5-6 months are just around shoulder height, a cat who is 10 months, Venny’s age, would be just about the size of a fully grown adult cat.
As Midnight is still only barely 5 months old, her size is understandable against Venny’s!

If you want another good fan comic I'd suggest 'The Recruit', it's honestly one of my favorites. This comic has been going on for years now and it's pretty cool to see how much Arual has improved.
