Description I've seen witch's ladders made two ways - either as a rope or strand with a charm on either end, or as a connected circle...

the beads are separated for counting in groups of 3, 7, 9, and 21 - totaling to 40.

This one is made with 40 amethyst beads and a pentacle on one end, an owl on the other...

I may have to steal this idea and may use more than one crystal/stone for it though. Very gorgeous and has put me in quite the crafting mood lol

Beautiful piece, though I've never seen such a thing...off to see if I can find the ritual significance of it.

lately in search I can only find the other kind of witch ladders that are made with knotted cord and feathers or other ritual objects. There used to be a great blog which is where I got my info on dividing the numbers into groups of 3, 7, 9, and 21. The first time I found any mention of the witch's ladder as a strand of 40 beads was in A Witch's Bible by Janet and Stewart Farrar - but they don't give much detail except that it's for counting prayers/incantations and it's 40 beads with a charm on either end. The one with the separated groups made a lot of sense to me so it's the one I adopted for my creations.

That amethyst one's lovely. The first thing that charged through my head was... "What's this? A Witch's "rosary" beads?" Or at least something in the vein of rosary, Taoist prayer/meditation beads or something along those lines. Bookmarked it in Etsy so I can loook at your other goodies, too.

Thank you I was very happy with how this one turned out. There's not many pieces I use this much amethyst for since amethyst in round form tends to be a bit pricey.
