Description finally got around to modeling my g3 bullpup concept circa 2011Β
Maya, Photoshop, Mental Ray

decided the iron sights in original design are too low and threw them out.

original concept: stunna-k.deviantart.com/art/Ri…

I was going to say this looks like a nice concept for a G3 Bullpup, before I read the title and description. Very nice!

I would most definitely want to see that in a game sometime Β

*Balancing issues I can think:- High damage, Moderate Recoil, Full Automatic balanced with a small magazine clip (20+ rounds)

Do we have an actual working version of this, or is it merely a concept?Β  I could be willing to buy such a conversion if it were out on the market...
One preference though, I would want to keep my metal upgraded handguard but add the forward trigger and grip as a screw-in add on item.Β  Are you actually going to put this into production?

I love the design, G3 and L85 Susat combining..
Not sure the stock works well holding the recoil of this cal.
Anyway for the impression its a fav for me

STUNNA-K In reply to Siregar3D [2016-01-18 22:07:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! i'm glad you appreciate it. This design will forever be one of my babies lol. Regarding recoil, I know for a fact that the Hk-style sliding stocks used on G3s do not have buffer tubes, so I imagine the felt recoil would be comparable with those models. Muzzle flip would be higher since the weight would be shifted towards the rear, but it's probably nothing a good comp or muzzle brake can't fix. There are quite a few existing high power bullpup rifles that lack recoil buffers such as the 7.62x51 RFB or the 7.62x54 SVU... i'm sure they kick like donkeys, but it can be done.

From an engineering perspective this artist's impression of a G3 bullpup could be easily implemented. Great design detail aft of the pistol grip.
Do you mind post more renderings from different angles?

If I had the tools, I would love to take a crack at building a prototype of this. Dude nice job, from what I can see of it from this render, it looks like it is mechanically possible to do. Have you thought about doing a schematic of this platform?

Do you have other views of this rifle you can post? I actually make US manufactured HK-style replacement components and am intrigued by your design.

Kalashnibob [2015-01-07 05:28:12 +0000 UTC]

With a good machinist and a few grand, you could make this a reality. The russians have been n**ger rigging bullpups since the 60's. I'd say make it simpler and just use an AR15 pistol grip along with a stamped trigger guard connected to the sear with a linkage bar. Lastly, enclose any openings from the lower and buttstock with weldings and slap a good rubber buttpad on the end, fit for LOP. Done

The biggest problem is if the gas-system would work and if the recoil being in the back would ruin the gun.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheMintyCrab In reply to Tevo77777 [2014-06-13 19:04:23 +0000 UTC]

First of all, the G3 and it's cousins (eg HK53, MP5, etc.) all work by means of a roller-delayed blowback system. As such, they have no gas system.
(+ of course the gas system would work if you converted a conventional battle rifle to a bullpup one; the gas system is basically the only part of the weapon which you wouldn't modify)
Also, the recoil has nothing to do with whether or not the weapon is a bullpup.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Tevo77777 In reply to TheMintyCrab [2014-06-14 01:03:47 +0000 UTC]

The weight is in the back and the G3 has lots of recoil, so that means the upward tilt is going to be horrible.

wasent this the gun the military guys used in AKIRA?, i was always wondering what weapons they were using i thought they were L85 British assault rifles, but these look more like the rifles they were using

STUNNA-K In reply to redkruger [2014-04-03 02:36:11 +0000 UTC]

haha you're not the first person to notice that! although i think the bullpups used by the military in the film have been pretty clearly identified as early L85/SA80 prototypes as described here:Β www.imfdb.org/wiki/Akira . thanks for taking a look!

exizt [2014-03-13 10:16:26 +0000 UTC]

I think youve done a very good job with this rifle, in concept and 3D. The G3 looks functional and handy. Thats a characteristic that I dosnΒ΄t see much often here between all the weapon prototypes and mods. As I said, very good job, also in texturing.

Only one suggestion for improvement from a experience shooter: place the sights a few centimeter in the front. That makes it easier to use without smashing in the face

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

STUNNA-K In reply to exizt [2014-03-25 06:19:09 +0000 UTC]

they there, thanks for taking a look. I appreciate your comment. I am also very aware of the importance of eye relief and took careful notice to research the length of the eye relief and positioning of the susat scope on this rifle. susats have very low eye relief distance and the ocular lens sits very close to the shooter's eye. also, combine this with the usual long length of bullpup stocks, and you get an optic that looks like it's sitting unusually close to the face of the shooter x) take a look for yourself and look up a few bullpups with their original-proprietary optics - F2000, L85, AUG A1... you'll notice the back end of the all of their optics sit far behind the pistol grips.
