Yeah, it probably could. I have a (bad?) habit of making anything keratinous some sort of grayish color, but I think I might start breaking said habit from now on.

Not really bad, many keratinous structures are dull-coloured. It's just that in this case, the colouration would make more sense the other way around, with the body gray and the keratinous part brightly coloured as a display structure of sorts. But it's a great representation nonetheless!
