classic view.. In high school I worked in the plant in new jersey where the cables for that were made.. when I worked there it was called CF&I but had previously been John A Roebling &Sons..in a town built by the company called Roebling. pretty interesting

It was quite a place.. it was hard work.. the place I worked in there was called the "rod mill".. the process was that they would melt down all this scrap steel and pour it into 2000 pound ingots.. which were then sent to the blooming mill to be drawn down into long 2 x 2 inch billets.. which were sent to the rod mill and run through a series of ever decreaasing dies to turn it into steel wire.. my job,, in this place that was about 12o degrees on a good day. was to grab a six foot steel hook and pull loops of the hot metal rods away from the shears when there was a jam (about every 10th pass! and roll them up before they cooled.. it was brutal work.. and convinced me to go and finish college... but I could only think of half the town working there for 30 and 40 years.. damn....
