Wow, Dino, that's amazing work! I really love the attention that you give to detail in your scale models. It's stunning. The textures are spot on, everything is great! I don't know if you're interested or not, but I am actually working on an independent film titled "Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie," as the right hand assistant of the Visual Effects Suprevisor, and the director, writer, and star, Jamesο»Ώ Rolfe, is looking for model makers for an epic final battle in the film, which will utilize awesome, epic, old-school practical effects, including scale models and such. PM me if you're interested. I'd love to see your amazing work in the final film. This should be fun for you, and challenging, but you can never get too much experience!

Also, I'd like to note that Rolfe has always been a big fan of practical effects. It's "practically" what he prefer over CGI, and so do I. And the reason he has asked fans to help him in this manner, is because he cares a lot about them, and therefore, he is open to give them a chance of helping making this labor of love a reality.

You can find a post I did about it here, [link]

Stay creative,
- Lukas

Thanks for the interest doncajeito.

Are you asking: How can the house be sustainable if it is made of wood?

Quarter inch MDF laminated to a thicker piece of MDF then painted with spray paint and acrylics.

If I am remembering correctly, it is at 1/4" = 1'0".

I love the unique style of this home. The leveled porches are nice. Do you sketch your work then build a model or do you use a computer at some time?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

subtle-design In reply to JerryDonovan [2007-06-20 17:53:38 +0000 UTC]

For this particular one, I just used sketching. From my sketches I built this scale model and from the model I did some hard line drawings the old school drafting way.

I don't have much against the computer anymore (I use it everyday for work) but for school I wanted to use my hands while I could.

thank you. I am working on sketches right now but i still have a long way to go with both drawing and computers. thanks

great design! what software did you use to create this?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

subtle-design In reply to architect-jong [2007-02-11 21:53:30 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

No software involved. Just alot of hours spent cutting basswood and waiting for glue to dry. Preceeded by many hours of sketching. I don't even think I enhanced the photograph at all.

A brilliant combination of form and function. It'd be interesting to see how that semi-heating system would work.

Another nice piece of work! Like the house. You are good at seeking untraditional solutions but still respecting that the product has to "work", fulfill it's tasks (being a house).

great design. but i am not sure how the excess matieral used for designs sake can be considered very sustainable.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

subtle-design In reply to donopunk [2006-10-13 14:57:33 +0000 UTC]

The excess projections are a structural system that acctually lifts the entire house off the ground in the summer to provide natural ventilation and lower the house to the ground in the winter to gain thermal heating. Not a very practical sustainable concept (with the amoung of extra materials and energy needed to preform such a task) but one I thought needed exploring. Thanks for the comment.

wow, very intruiging idea. Depending on the location maybe there coule be some sort of wind energy system below the house to help supply the xtra energy need to raise and lower. like a wind tunnel or something.
