History

Quickly finished before the onset of the second World War, Stanley simply shunted about the Manning Wardle workshops as tanks and planes were built around him. It was busy, but he managed perfectly well through the war.
After hostilities ended, he was sold to the newly formed National Coal Board, shuffling from mine to colliery to mine again, never quite having a place. He'd be sold again in 1953, as stronger and more standard engines had come into all the mines that would have taken him. But his sale coincided with the rediscovery of a massive town on the Island of Sodor. But.. that's a story you likely already know.

Personality

A rather chill engine, it takes a lot to light Stanley's fuse, and given the situation, he'd rather be a wet blanket and cause someone momentary grief rather than let them hurt themselves or others.
