My cat Sam.

He was a Maine Coon who was abandoned by some of our neighbors when I was a kid. He survived at least 2 years as a stray, until I adopted him in high school. During my second year in college, my mother accidentally ran him over. He only died because of the complete incompetency of the veterinarian they took him to. This photo was taken a year or two before he died, approximately 1988.

He was a wild thing, but I loved him.

This is a scan of an 8" x 10" color photograph on 35mm film, desaturated and levels adjusted in Photoshop. I took it out of its mount to scan it, because ~paullung wanted to draw it for his cat calendar. The drawing can be seen [here] , and the calendar can be ordered [here] .
