Description There is an open field near my house that I used to walk past every day from school. It's mostly dominated by electrical power lines but you can still see bits of the city from there. It's a very ordinary place if you've just walked past it for the first time, but I think it's magical during nights where you can see the stars, and days when you manage to catch a glimpse of the sunset over the city. No one really goes there since the electric lines can be dangerous, and even though it's not your typical beach or mountain, it has a raw beauty you can't find in typically beautiful places. I always thought about my dreams and aspirations while walking past there, it's a place that has grown with me overtime.Β

Here are some photos of it (taken with crappy phone): Link 1 | Link 2

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

What a beautiful set of pieces. Despite the change in time, your color palette complements in both pieces, making it logical and impacting that the two should appear together. The similarity of composition gives a clear focus to the impact of the passage of time on the environment, and both are very rich and detailed works.

I especially am fond of the focus on the power lines. I feel like there is an odd kind of very man-made beauty to power lines, something that perhaps does not get much attention from artists. But in these pieces it is the focusing framework of the piece, and gorgeously silhouetted against your fantastic colors in the sky.

I almost wish that there were a third piece in this set, but perhaps that would be too much for what you are trying to accomplish. Great job overall. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Sure. I love telling people what I like about their art. I think it's a really great feature of the site, because it helps to connect artists, and it can help people produce even more awesome stuff.

That's really cool, I like how you added your own style in with it to make things look better.
It's special that these pieces have sentiment to you. I usually do most of my thinking while driving in the car or I used to sit on my aunt's dock in the evening and listen to the waves and smell the salt air. Thinking spots are very nice. <3

I always find something fascinating about power lines like that. We have some near our home, and every time we drive by them, I'm tempted to follow them (they go through a forest, so it looks like a cleared path). Alas, I cannot--but that's what art is for.
Beautiful, by the way--I love the starry night and the sunset and how nicely graphic the electric towers look against them.
Excellent work!

Wow this is beautiful! The place where you live has some really spectacular skies!
Your clouds and skies are getting better and better, gosh and the color of the sunset in the bottom one is beautiful!

My old house had a field similar to this with giant towers, but you could only see other suburban homes.Β

TheAngelCyborg [2014-07-05 05:59:03 +0000 UTC]

I love both for different reasons. The values in the first make the piece seem rich with the settle off-play of similar colors. The second piece is Β just as good because of the nature of lighting; to me it seems like a "good-bye today" or "hello tomorrow" moment. Both are very enchanting.

Quick question if the figured subjects are different in the pictures? One seems to look like a girl and the other looks like a boy.

sugarmints In reply to TheAngelCyborg [2014-07-06 19:14:58 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! The night version is actually the younger self of the day version. So it's when the girl was a child, haha maybe it's not too clear...Β
