Description
Location painting practice, alternately titled "Bleh Nausicaa Background Meets Bleh Disney background". I'm dissatisfied with how unoriginal this turned out to be conceptwise, but I'm seriously looking forward to my next painting as i learned another handful of MAJOR things whilst working on this. Also proud on some of the rendering, which therefore warrants its posting.Related content

Ah, thanks man, but I'm absolute garbage with step by step tutorials. I fully render tons of stuff and then just go over it from the sketch on, it's a ridiculously bad habit. Trying to get over that crutch though, and making some progress, so hopefully soon!

No problem dude! and I cant complain I guess , I can definitely feel a really slow improvement haha I have yet to do any real commercial work I could put on a resume though. Pretty much just looking into 4 year art schools to major in illustration, if I can make it happen I was looking into CCA out in Pasadena, living on the west coast for a bit seems like it would be sick! What are your plans cuz?

What's CCA dude? Doesn't ring a bell. The west coast is sick, come down and visit us sometime! I've been refining my application to the character animation course at Calarts over the past month, so hopefully I get accepted to that. If not, just keep pushing myself in what i can paint and continue the hunt for more freelance work. We'll see what happens, haha.

Whats with everyone suddenly trying to monopolize on trypopopopopophobia. One thing that I really did like was the brown egg things. Yknow that flu taste you get while you have the flu? That taste suddenly made its way around my mouth. I know what you mean about this lacking originality, something that bothered me with the fungal/rotting concept is that its just as vibrant of life as a tropical region. I'm not sure what to recommend because i'm not quite sure what your goal was but if it was life/death you should have imagined some of your own flora for the right side. Alot of the left side has some cool ideas going for it but the right side is just general tropical flora. I think it would have been interesting if the tropical area looked more dead/dangerous than the leftside somehow.

In my defense, I've been doing stuff with tons of little holes in it pretty much since i joined. Anyway, this is all great input, thanks man! My biggest issue is the fungal left half was a complete afterthought, so any semblance of compositional planning was pretty much thrown out the window at that point, and that there was no intended message to this piece in the first place, it was a purely illustration exercise.

I think a brighter back drop would have made the entire thing POP more and make it seem more alive. I like the idea though, just not executed as well.
