Taken at the Utah Renaissance and Fantasy Faire in Marriott-Slaterville, UT.

Yes, I had a leather back and I decorated it with fox fur and the other side had a wolf claw with beads.

I'm not a dress wearing type. I would have probably warn something a little less feminine. XD

Looks a little cold that day - you were smart to have the cloak and everything, instead of that gal on your left.

It was overcast and windy, but it was pretty hot for most of the day. It started to rain as we left though.

The local Renfest here is during August and September, but I always seem to make it there on a rainy day. (Last year it was warm though, ugh.) But I think they're more fun in the rain. The pickle sellers are a lot more chatty on the colder days.

NIce cloak.
The dagger is nice.

single layer cloaks are warm, lined cloaks are even better.
Can't see it, what closure does it have? frog, clasp, pin?

Very thick cloak this one is... and heavy, but that's good.

And its just some thick ribbons that hold it together at the top. I wanted a clasp, but they didn't have any anywhere at the faire.

I always wanted to go to a Ren faire. I'm currently making my own costume, I think the only part I won't be able to make is the footwear. Unfortunately nice leather boots are so expensive D8 I love that dagger, it looks so elegant. Weird how instruments of destruction and death can be so beautiful. I have a sword, it's my pride and joy, and yet it could just as easily be cutting some poor soul open on the battlefield, drenched in blood and gore, as sitting in my room all bright, beautiful, and innocent looking. Creepy to think about...

Haha yeah, its weird that way, I agree, but they are so awesome. I have a sword that matches the dagger, sad I didn't have it at the faire. I won't forget for next time!

Kazeii In reply to sugarpoultry [2011-05-15 04:27:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they are awesome. I got pretty lucky, I've been raised in a family obsessed with traditional forms of fighting. Learned archery (which I still suck at no matter how much I practice) and staff fighting from my brother, all the history and theory aspects from my dad, and horseback riding from my mother. So I get to exult over the general awesomeness of traditional weaponry a lot As opposed to my buddy Casey, he only gets to talk about it with me.
You should most definitely take a picture of you with that sword. And you really should make yourself a costume. It's a time consuming but very rewarding project. And it's good therapy once you learn not to stress over every detail, like painting.

Yeah I've found a few patterns for free that I want to try. It'll have a semi-corset, with leather on it, arm bands, a normal tunic type shirt underneath. I'm afraid it might look too pirate when I do it, but oh well, its what I want. XD

Kazeii In reply to sugarpoultry [2011-05-15 04:37:17 +0000 UTC]

That's going to be cool, very cool. Thinking of designs on the arm bands? Maybe some cool buckles? Not those weirdo Western ones that they give as prizes at rodeos and the like (dunno if you're into those or not, sorry), but... I don't know, maybe a cool Celtic one? If you're looking to do leatherwork, I have to reccomend this place: [link] . Crazy cheap prices and good quality. I bought about 100 dollars worth of leather there for somewhere between 40-50 dollars. And a wonderful arrangement of accessories to boot. Not to mention that a lot of their popular stuff is almost permanently on sale from their monthly sales, it's great Long comment about that place, but they deserve it.

No, not Western, ick. More Medieval. They had a bunch there, I'm so mad I didn't pick some up, they were cheap..

That place looks neat! I'll definitely check it out, thanks.

Ah, good. Wasn't sure if you go for Western or not. Gah, you're making me want to get to work on my costume, I just picked up the fabric and a pattern to use as a reference today (they only had fashion patterns, so I picked one that fits me and doesn't look too complicated so I can edit it). Best thing to get creative is to listen to Lord of the Rings. Don't know if you've ever read the books or seen the movies, but man, they're the best thing in the world for inspiration, at least for me. They top even X-Ray Dog and classical for me. Seems a bit random, but I was just listening to "Minas Tirith" and thinking about Tolkien's great descriptions of Gandalf's and Pippin's flight to the White City on Shadowfax and had to say something.

Read and own them all, extended. LOVE it! The soundtracks are so epic as well.

Yeah I've been very motivated to get to work on it for the next ren fair this summer, in July. I hope I can make a decent outfit by then.
