Rie Kitahara was originally promoted to Team A on July 30, 2008 but was soon transferred to Team B on August 23, 2009 during the first AKB48 Team Shuffle. At the Tokyo Dome Team Shuffle on August 24, 2012 she was transferred to Team K and given a concurrent position with SKE48's Team S. She held the concurrency until April 28, 2013 AKB48 Group Rinji Souka. On March 26, 2015 at AKB48 Spring Shuffle it was announced that Rie Kitahara will be transferred to the yet to be form NGT48's Team NIII. She will be Captain of Team NIII and Captain of NGT48.

Like most people Kitarie is extremely insecure and has a negative view of herself. She has admitted to thinking she’s not pretty and not very talented. But she will always cheer on others, especially the junior members. And even with so much anxiety deep down Kitarie still has a desire to succeed, to prove herself. To show that despite her insecurities, despite her own self doubt she will step out of the shadows and shine.
