Description

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away Star Wars opened on this day in 1977. Wasn’t alive to see it then but I can remember the very first time. I was about five-years-old and can still picture the den of the first house I lived in, on a TV that had numbered buttons on the side panel (because that’s how you changed the channel) watching Luke pulled under water by the dianoga during the garbage masher scene.

In the following decades that admiration has not only strengthened in me but also been renewed several times over. I’ve divined many a lesson from the tales of Star Wars and it’s no exaggeration to say that at one point it even helped steer away from a dark path of my own. It taught me that no matter how overwhelming the odds, no matter how bleak things look, there is always hope.
