This is such an epic dragon design. Oooh- not dragon, Sand Dier....
I need to get dragons out of my head- thats all I've been drawing lately. O^O Draw new stuff, I keep telling myself...
Well there's quite enough inspiration for strange things here.
LOL, yeah, them legs- but you drew them so well! I've gotta find a profile sheet for this beauty!!!!!

Thank you! I'll probably be putting up more Sand Dier art sometime soon ;D
And yeah, I love drawing dragons too, but it is good to try and draw new things!

X3 YEAAYYYYY!!!!
Β
Yeah... I try so hard, but I either draw some crazy armored fish, or some feathery dog-cat-snake-fish-horse-dragon.
Β Thankfully my people don't look TOO much like dragons. OVO
Oh well. I guess DRAGON is a permanent style for me.Β
Hehe, you should keep in mind making an alien dragon. Basically rethinking the basic shapes of anatomy and the amount of legs or different body parts a creature can have for different senses like smell, hearing, and even radar and flight is getting fun. Finding more than one way for a creature to do something, basically.
P8 I got something to draw now. YEAAY!

I particularly like following the scale work of this species, I find the shape and order of them very unique and the short arms still amuse me. The first thing I always see on the Diers is the large, majestic head and their long, slender necks....and then I find these short, stubby arms attached to them, just peeking out. It's like " Yes, these are my mighty arms that I will pummel you with. Stop staring, they are almighty badger claws, not cute."
Of course, biologically short arms makes sense if they dig around, seeing as you call them Sand Diers. But still, it makes me laugh now and then.

Thank you! Their scale work is quite interesting, but also a big pain to draw.
Though the Diers are so large that even those little stubby arms are quite
threatening!

you can drag one home without the hassle of that large body xD

Jabber-Wock [2014-02-25 01:00:49 +0000 UTC]
I love the design! The coloring's a little bland, though. Maybe add some patterning? It doesn't have to be all that complex; a gradient from darker brown on the back to a slightly lighter brown towards the stomach would do. Just something to add some variation.

SunDier In reply to Jabber-Wock [2014-02-25 16:46:23 +0000 UTC]
Thank you for your suggestions! Sand Diers generally have either limited to no markings though, and when they do they tend to be faint. Jillian does have subtle markings on his back, and I could probably make them a little more pronounced. There is some gradation from the stomach to the back, but I was thinking of possibly lightening up his neck and chest a little. I suppose it is a bit hard to tell with the lighting :'D
