Description Sunil Kulanada is a well known Indian artist and poetry painter. He was born in 1972 and he is renowned for his unique painting style. He is a multifaceted person who transformed the colourful Indian and world poetry to visual art which is incomparable,inimitable in the large spectrum of fine arts.His contributions are considered to be 'UNIQUE'.He initiated with a series of poetry paintings. His most famous painting work was 'DAIVA DASAKAM'. This painting was based on Great Monk Sri Narayana Guru's ‘Ten Verses to God’ (Daiva Dasakam). Artist Sunil established himself as a poetry painter in the early 2014 and his series of poetry paintings made him a publicly known poetry painter.


EARLY LIFE

Sunil was born at Kulanada, Pandalam, Kerala for Bhargavan and Kanakamma of the Pulikkeril family.During his childhood, he was inspired by the cartoons and paintings of his great uncle, Cartoonist Pulikkeril Kesavan Manthri (P K MANTHRI). He received his formal education from S H V High School, his college life at NSS College, Pandalam and he is a graduate in Malayalam Literature from the Calicut University. His Gurus were Artist Krishnan Karakkad and Artist Valyathan.

After his graduation, Sunil worked for the Kerala Kaumudi newspaper circulation section and contributed numerous cartoons and paintings for magazines. In 1996, Artist Sunil embarked on his expatriate life as an interior designer in the GCC and later in Kuwait.

Having mastered painting under the tutelage of artists like Pandalam Valyathan, Krishnan Karakkad and others, Sunil has been working in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait for the last eighteen years after his school and college education. Sunil later made painting his life.

Sunil is an artist who recreates the poet's mind through lines and gives new life to the paintings by adding to poems and other literary works.

Many poetic pictures were born from the brush of Sunil, who painted the literary works of poets and artists from Kerala and abroad with lines and colors on a single canvas.

So far, more than fifty poems have been made into picture form. Noted for an innovative experiment in painting known as 'poetic pictures', he first comes into this scene by giving a pictorial rendering of Sri Narayana Guru's famous prayer song 'Daiva Dasakam'.

Sunil turned to the field of poetry painting after this picture which was created as an image of the ideas that the Guru gave importance during the Daiva Dasakam and has been noted in social media and art exhibitions etc.

Sunil's method is to combine his own style with traditional painting methods and give a pictorial appeal to images that arise in mind in a way that the common man can enjoy. He later became an art teacher of Indian children in Kuwait.

Artist Sunil gives new expressions to the art of painting by incorporating history into literature and legends. Some of his famous artworks are 'Bhumi Geethangal' by ONV Kurup, 'Vryksham' by Vayalar Rama Varma, 'Ma Nishada', 'Raathrimazha' by Sugathakumari, 'P Bhaskaran', A.Ayyappan's last poem 'Ira', 'Kalidasa Sahitya ', 'Changampuzha', 'Vallathol', 'Murugan Kattakkada' and many other Malayalam poems.
He has also worked on many illustrating poems like 'Daffodils' by William Wordsworth, 'Fairy Song' by William Shakespeare, 'Swift Things Are Beautiful' by Elizabeth Costworth, etc.
There is a long list of literary paintings in accordance with many poetic works.

Sunil says that when we get a suitable poem, we will be able to learn about the poet's life and life period along with many details in the poem and thereby incorporating it in the art of painting.

Smitha is his wife and she has been working as a staff nurse in Kuwait Ministry. He has two daughters Sarangi and Samantha who are pursuing their education. His artistic life is fully supported and encouraged by his family and people around him.

Sunil’s paintings and writings are a place of attention for those exploring new ideas and experimental studies in the field of art of painting.
