Holy Shit that's some good stuff. Β The world could always use more Mai fan art. Β Really like your technique and how you handled coloring and shading and lighting. Β You also got really nice clean edges on everything.
How long would you say this took you to finish?

I can't say for sure, but somewhere around 15-20 hours? Give or take. In the end, it depends if you're willing to add more details and whatnot. (I think I reached 50 hours on some other drawing, not sure if I have the patience for that again though!)

What do you use for your initial settings for a new file like do you go up to 300 dpi, or use 16 bit or do you use some preset paper settings?
And also I see in your video that you don't use the magic wand when coloring, are you using some kind of mask to prevent colors from spilling out of Mai lineart in the middle or some kind of clipping method like how Paint tool sai works?

About the initial settings, those are a bit technical (I don't even know what most of them do!) But by habit, I leave mine at 200 dpi, RGB 8 bit and color profile sRGB. As far as I know, dpi is only useful when you need something printed. For the rest, I'm not quite sure what they do besides the width/height! (I usually choose a custom number between ~2000-4000 pixels depending on what I want to draw, e.g. landscape or portrait)
And yup, I used multiple clipping mask layers (I believe it's exactly the same method as a clipping group in paint tool sai if I'm not wrong)

I tried the clipping mask thing in photoshop and it blew my mind that I never used this method before. Β I usually use the magic wand tool on the line art layer and always have to switch to the color layer and it gets really tedious to do it that way for really long paintings. Β
Thanks for enlightening me on this method of coloring. Β This'll save me probably hours whenever I digitally paint.
