Description “Ah, Ophion. I thought I’d find you here.”

“O-oh! Lord Reaper. Sir.”
The younger male’s head whipped around to the sound of Fornax’s voice suddenly breaking through his cloud of thoughts, sitting bolt upright attentively. His face creased into a slight frown as he fully took in his approacher’s words, blinking as the occasional raindrop landed on his head. “You were searching for me?”

“Yes,” replied Fornax, his yellow eyes casually gazing towards the rocky formation below his feet as he stepped closer before lifting to scan the surrounding expanse. The fresh Spring air was thick and heavy, the mists hanging so low they covered the trees to near invisibility. Ophion watched him carefully, noting the shadow of sadness that still lingered over his dark face ever since the disturbing loss of his mate. It caused his young heart to ache with sympathy.

Fornax stood behind the youth, looking at him with a kind and authoritative smile. “I’m here on behalf of your father. He’s been noticing your unusual anti-social behaviour and distancing from your fellow Vektreni as of late. I just wanted to make sure everything was alright- especially after what happened to your brother, and that it’s nothing I need to be concerned with.”

Biting his lip, Ophion cast his amber gaze downwards ashamedly. He’d never been one to hide his emotions well, and while they’d been more turbulent than ever he’d thought it best to avoid everyone as much as possible. It was no surprise others had picked up on it, especially Montu. Nothing got past his ever-loving father.

Since the Scythe was such an impartial and neutral party in all of this, Ophion decided to offer him a little bit of honesty that he was sure wouldn’t get him into any trouble. Especially since he’d taken the time to seek the younger wolf out. Plus, Ophion felt more confident to talk about it ever since his recent confiding in Amon who’d already helped him feel better about it all.

“Well…” he started, letting out a small sigh that misted slightly in the rainy atmosphere. “I recently had an… unfortunate run-in with Amaris. She was in an absolute state after attempting to hunt something big by herself- a boar it smelt like, so I offered to help her, but she refused. We had a bit of a.. disagreement after that, nothing to worry about though. And yeah, what happened to Amon hasn’t helped much. I’ll feel better as soon as he does.”

The auburn-coated wolf turned back towards the fog-laden view, lowering his head as he did so. He hadn’t even noticed the intrigued expression that had suddenly crossed his superior’s features, hadn’t realised the weight and importance behind his words.

“I’m sorry, did I hear you right? Amaris had tried to hunt a boar all by herself?”

These words immediately re-captured Ophion’s attention, and his jaw fell open slightly as he turned back towards Fornax. How had he not realised this sooner? His eyes widened as it hit him. Finally, a chance to make her pay.

“A-aye Sir, that’s right. She did. She’s hunted alone many times without the aid of Magisters or Scythes.” He said bluntly, choosing his words carefully before continuing. “I’m sorry I didn’t say anything sooner, so much happened at the time that it completely slipped my mind. I promise to be more vigilant and focused in the future, my Lord. It won’t happen again.”

The grey-pelted beta nodded in response, pursing his lips thoughtfully, before offering Ophion another smile. “I see. That’s quite alright. Thank you for this incredibly valuable information, Ophion. You’re such a dedicated member of the pack, I’ve no doubt you’ll make a fine Vektreni someday. Keep up the good work.”

And with that, he turned tail and padded away, as silent as a shadow. His praise had filled Ophion’s ears in the most wonderful way, and his validation following Amon’s had offered that sense of relief he had been so desperately craving. Not only had his beloved brother reassured him, but now the Lord Reaper, a valuable member of his mother’s council. His shoulders were finally feeling well and truly weightless, the anxieties that had plagued him at last washing away.

He exhaled a foggy breath into the cool atmosphere, unable to remember the last time he had felt this free.

There was still one important matter that needed to be dealt with, though, and thus began the process of preparing himself before facing the albino beauty he had been avoiding for so long.

HERE IT FINALLY IS

A collab between myself and the AMAZING OneMinuteSketch !! She did the sketch and the gorgeous background, and I lined, coloured and shaded the characters. It was a HEAP of fun, I don't think I've ever worked with a style so different to my own before, and I think they mesh together really nicely! I'm just in love with this, thanks so much for the collab, OMS!

Ohhh Ophion. Once again, you're out here causing problems for others. at least this time it's a little more on-purpose.

(good luck Amy)
