Description ZOMG I'm SUPER HAPPY WITH THIS ONE.
It's completely outside my comfort zone. I'm AMAZED at the results. it's NOT me. period dot.

It started with simply looking through sky of silver's faves. I found the horse, and the field. The fire. Through her faves. THANK YOU SKY. As I manipulated, it just got more and more NOT ME. I had some trouble with the fire at first. And I FINALLY got why I was having trouble painting the tails - in this manip and the other one I'm currently working on. It's because I've never done a MOVING horse's tail. I've always done standing! 0_o

anywhos, after I finished the fire, I realized the sky (not the final sky) needed some darkening. So I found the awesome sky I have now. The quote - by MUAHHH. Just thought it up. probably isn't the best quote ever, but owell.

ANYWHOS. The people that made this manipulation possible (stock and encouragers to be creative and look through other people's faves)!!!!!!!!

(bg)
(horse)
(bird)
(sky)
(fire)
(fire brushes)
(encouraging me to look through faves!)
(encouraging me to be creative!)
(for all the wonderful, helpful critique!)
(muahhh!!!!!!)

Thank you everyone!!

oh and by the way. don't even THINK about stealing. you shall surely die.

thanks!
haha, I'm glad you like the quote! To tell you the truth, it was a spontaneous assembly of words from my brain

haha I see what you mean about the tail being too perfect. thankyou! I was pretty happy about how my hair turned out

I see what you mean. I added some lighting to the horse's neck area, and as you can probably tell some fire to the front part of his body. I see now I should have added some more lighting to the head, though. do you think a shadow on the other side of the horse is needed? I may do some updates.

Haha thanks! the fire was basically a cutout stock image and yes, I realize it should have some flames up top. whoops

Thank you so much!!

you're welcome!

for fire lighting, i usually use a mixture of the dodge/burn tools and painting lighting manually. as for the shadow, hmm, i'd probably move the current horse shadow to be more behind the horse - i'd use the Warp tool for this, but it's whatever works best for you.

haha, thats alright! you're welcome.

yesss. I used a lot of dodge tools. I also used a fire brush on a different layer to paint some fire on the horse's neck. I'll probably add some more, though.

As for the shadow - the 'current' shadow was, in my envisioning - burnt grass! although now that I look at it again it does look like it's the horse's shadow, now, doesn't it? bahahahaha xD

eshh i have an obsession with the dodge tool, haha xD

OH i see now xD haha, i thought that was the horse's current shadow!

bahahahahaha xD

LOL XD - I can see how you think that though! But believe me it was not on purpose. I can't believe I actually drew it to the horse's perspective (and such)

Overall

Vision

Originality

Impact

Overall I think this is gorgeous and a really cool idea.

I love the mane and tail, the very clear two colors of it works well and is very realistic for an appaloosa. The way you used the fire brushes does look very realistic. I also really like how the spots on the appaloosa are almost the exact same shade as the color of the rock in the background, and various areas of the grass. The palette picking up in other places really brings a sense of unity to the picture.

The only things I see that could be fixed, and they aren't big ones, is that the top of the fire could use longer flames that gradually fade out. Also, the horse's shadow would be going behind it I believe, as the fire is the major light source.

Great job!

thanks!!

I'm glad you like my mane/tail. This was really my first 'in motion' horse, persay, so I was having a bit of trouble with the hair. The final tail is actually the second time I painted it. It was also my first appaloosa

As for the fire/fire brushes, I'm glad you thought it looked realistic! That's what I was going for the main part of the fire was actually a stock image. I see what you mean how I should have 'strewn' out the ends, to make them more flickering/firish. I did use a fire brush to cut the fire pic. What I need to do is copy the fire brush I have, and turn it upsidedown

as for the matching of appaloosa spots to the rocks/grass - that was not planned!! but I'm glad you like it

And as for the shadow.... The black grass near the fire does look like a shadow for the horse, doesn't it? Bahahahahahaha I didn't even realize. My envisioning was that it was burnt grass. And, you know me, I ALWAYS forget shadows/reflections

Thanks so much!!

You did well for your first time

Lol, sounds like a plan for the fire brush turned upside down and stuff

It is very a cool random happening then

I can see it as burnt grass I always forget shadows and reflections too

Welcome dear!

Well, The cutting looks very smooth, very clean. Great job on that.

Like *horseland-graphics said, the front of the horse needs more orangish lighting. I think so does the bird, less, but still needs some.

The fire looks great, but the top of it is a bit rugged, you can see black spots in it. Next time if you put the fire layer on screen it should get rid of all those black spots automaticly.

Also, the mane and tail. The way the tail is formed is great, very realistic. Like how a real horse tail would be shaped, so is the mane, but to critique a bit on it: I think the tips need to be less bold, as a real horse tail will fade out as it gets longer. The high-lights are nice, but i think there a bit too bold as well. Everything else looks great,

thanks

yes, I realize (after not looking at it in a while) that it needs some more lighting. I'm thinking of doing a remake. though not sure. haha.

I see what you mean. if I do do that remake I'll try to make it more flame-y. as for the black spots, the original stock image was fire on a black background. i probably just didn't get some of the black

thanks!! very true...

hahaha thanks I think I'll probably start over with it, though. Like, make it more 'intimate' with the horse and tornado. idk

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShilahGraphics In reply to Sunn7 [2011-01-26 00:55:18 +0000 UTC]

Just a creative though *maybe make the horse running around the tornado? or like hes making it../ Coming out of it as if he is the tornado.. ? Hmm.. Interpret the way you like and maybe consider something like that? *

Sunn7 In reply to ShilahGraphics [2011-01-26 02:34:42 +0000 UTC]

haha yes. right now i have the tornado FAR away. I don't like it I want the horse near the tornado. Like in it. Problem is finding the stock for it
Haha thanks for the suggestions!
