Chapter 1

Ran's POV

I woke up and stared out my window. Another day of waiting for Shinichi. I hate to admit it but I was beginning to get impatient. Just what kind of case was he on that would take so long to complete.

I sighed and got started with my morning routine of getting ready and making breakfast. After all neither of the guys I live with would last long without me.

"Ohayo, Ran-neechan" came a high-pitched voice behind me.

I turned to see Conan-kun, standing behind me.

"Ohayo, Conan-kun," I replied swallowed my misery and put on my brave face. "What would you like for breakfast?"

Later after dealing with my crabby Otousan (who is not a morning person) the two of us went to school, on the way meeting up with Conan-kun's friends the Shonen Tantei, and my best friend Sonoko. After leaving the younger children to go to their own school Sonoko turned to me and said, "Still worrying about that detective geek, huh."

I had to smile a little at that. "Yeah."

"Well I've got a solution for you," Said Sonoko proudly. "I heard about this cool American thing called ATAC."

I blinked in surprise, "A-tack?"

"No, ATAC, A-T-A-C, it stands for American Teens Against Crime", Explained Sonoko. "It's supposed to be this super cool organization where people our age go out on missions like spies and save the world and stuff."

However I was skeptical, "sounds like a hoax," I said, "Besides even if it wasn't, what does that have to do with Shinichi?"

"It is NOT a hoax, I heard about it from Makoto-san," replied Sonoko indignantly. "He knows about it because some people were scouting for new agents at one of his karate tournaments, the actually asked him to join, but he turned them down. Plus I looked it up online, there's actually a website where you send a video about your problem. I already sent one telling them how I've solved cases as Sonoko Deduction Queen, I want to be an agent so I can go to America and visit Makoto."

"As for Shinichi, don't you think ATAC would be the perfect people to track him down? For all we know he could be agent for them, that's why he's been gone, 'cause he's undercover. Either way it couldn't hurt to contact them about your husband."

I smiled at my friend's assessment, "I'll think about it. And for the last time Shinichi's not my husband."
Sonoko smirked, "Okay, okay, he's not your husband."

"Thank-you"

"Yet."

"SONOKO!"

I did think about it all during school that day, more than once my teacher caught me with her head in the clouds, and told me to pay attention.

Finally, after weighing the pros and cons, I made my decision.

After school I went back to the agency where I could be alone. My Otousan was probably out at a bar somewhere, and Conan-kun was at the park with his friends. I don't know why, but I felt like keeping what I was about to do a secret.

I took a deep breath and went to the website Sonoko told me about.

'I'm sorry Shinichi,' I thought to myself, 'but I'm tired of being left in the dark.'

Shinichi's POV

I was playing hide and seek with the kids, when suddenly a cold chill went down my spine.

Haibara, who I'd already found, noticed and asked, "Nani, what's wrong?"

I shook my head, "It's nothing." But inwardly I wondered where that sense of foreboding came from.

Ran's POV

After school I went back to the agency where I could be alone. My Otousan was probably out at a bar somewhere, and Conan-kun was at the park with his friends. I don't know why, but I felt like keeping what I was about to do a secret.

I took a deep breath and went to the website Sonoko told me about.

'I'm sorry Shinichi,' I thought to myself, 'but I'm tired of being left in the dark.'
