Cinder was my favorite character for a while in RWBY (though for probably an uncommon reason).

I started liking Cinder around the end of vol 3 because based on the information given thus far, I hypothesized she might actually be a hero in hiding since she might have a legitimate criticism about the powers that be. Of course, I'm less certain by the end of vol 7, but I'm still curious to see how her character progresses.

I never saw her as a potential good guy, but I did saw Emerald as one.

I liked Cinder more than Emerald in the beginning of the 4th season, it looked like she had some personality instead of just being sexy and usual villain.
But in the 5th season, they ruined her a little bit by making her go back to that old personality like nothing happened.. ^ ^

In comparison with Yang not being able to come in terms with a fully functional prosthetic, I'll take Cinder shaking off most defeats like they were nothing any day of the week. She's absorbed a lot of power, so it makes sense she'd be able to recover quickly.
Villains are supposed to do that. Just like it'd be bad storytelling to have the protagonist come back from the dead, but a seemingly unkillable villain is totally fine. Villains do and should be able to get away with more than the heroes. That inherently gives the hero the short end of the stick, which makes the villain harder to beat, which makes for a more enjoyable story. Where would the fun be in making the villain the underdog, anyway.
To me season 5 was kinda queastionable on the whole. I've actually found out that I enjoy the silliness of the chibi series much more than the "big" version. It's like the chibi series is the only remaining beacon of what RWBY used to be. Mostly the pacing has been absolutely terrible lately. Volumes 4 and 5 felt really dull to me. Now we see mostly talking heads, not much happens within the runtime of an episode any more and the plot only spins its wheels in place most of the time. It's honestly getting old at this point, and what pains me the most, the humour that used to be there has completely vanished, even though I think it'd be a great way to punctuate the everpresent gloom we've found ourselves in.
RWBY took an unnecessary mood shift and went downhill from there. And despite said mood shift, grim creatures seem to be on an all time low. if the lore surrounding the grim still matters, the grim should swarm the gang every time they're struck with bad luck. Aren't they supposed to be attracted to negative emotions? there have been loads of those lately. Anger, spite, fright, worry, sorrow... Salem has either overridden the beheavior of the grim, or the grim have a really high threshold until they get attracted to a given location. Given how much of a character drama RWBY's turned into, we haven't seen nearly enough grim! More grim means more fights. More fights mean more fun. RWBY could have easily been made more exciting to watch, if only RT's storytelling came from the worldbuilding itself.
that aside, even though the gang is together again, I just can't help but wonder who's gonna die in volume 6, alternatively who is going to get injured/lost again. They will find a way to shoehorn an unnecessary subplot in there, and they're gonna spend half the volume fixing that mess again. Mark my words! XD

I didn't mean that Cinder was supposed to be the underdog, and be weak, but it's almost like they forgot what was driving her in volume 4.
Every time she was on the screen she would ask about the "girl" (Ruby).
Clearly she wanted revenge, but in vol 5, there they were, having the biggest battle in that volume and she didn't even look at Ruby, despise the plot building up to that point.
When she was fighting Jaune, and needed to choose a friend to kill to hurt him, I think Ruby was right beside her... passed out (I think), she could have clearly killed her, but she choose... Weiss??.
That's what annoyed me..

Rwby did loose it's focus a little bit, but I'll be lying if I said that I still wasn't enjoying it, vol 4 was supposed to be serious due to the things that happened in vol 3.Β
Tho I think that it could bring back a little bit of the old charm and comedy back , we saw that when the team JNPR and RWBY without B XDDΒ had their meal and remembered old times.

Yeah. You're right. There is a whole lot of inconsistent storytelling in RWBY, which is a crying shame.
With Cinder I think what it boils down to is that she made a lasting impression on me back when Torchwick was a thing, which was early on, and that impression stuck with me.
Don't get me wrong, I am still very much into RWBY, I only criticise it so much because I'm invested in it and I see that it could have been handled better in many places. I understand the serious tone following the end of volume three (and let's be honest, how is anyone supposed to follow from that sort of ending, it was easily the most intense part of the series so far. It just seems like the creators have written themselves into a corner and don't know how to get back on track, it sometimes feels like they don't even have a track to get back to.
And as critical as I could be of volume 4, the fight with the grim demon monster stuck with me to this day as well. It did have awesome moments, it just seems like there were much fewer of them than before, and the general everpresent feeling of being lost and the teams being separated really did a number on my mood while watching it. Volume 5 had its moments as well, but overall it seemed like the plot was mostly advancing through the mouths of the characters, rather than something actually happenning, and I don't think that's the right way of storytelling for an IP which captured a worldwide following as an action-packed webtoon.
I think the really sad thing is that action is no longer a defining characteristic of RWBY, despite the worldbuilding and the characters themselves have been created with a weapon in mind which not only complements them, but completes them, defines them. I mean, everynody and their mother has a weapon and every melee weapon is also a gun. Those are the two things that were fun about this series, the things that defined this series, and nowadays, those exact things lay mostly unused until the final episode of a volume comes along. All I can do now is ask where has all the action disappeared into? I'll be damned. Even if we get the odd fight scene here and there, this series has become much less dynamic.
I just wish there was a time where I could wholeheartedly say "I love everything about RWBY" again, instead of: "Eh, it had some good moments." It really is a shame. RWBY deserves to be better. RT can do much better. I mean come on, guys! Right? What's the hold up!
I'm still wishing upon a star that they give us something fun for volume 6, because I really don't want to drop RWBY, I haven't given up on it yet.

I also miss good fights, I mean, Qrow VS Tyrian was cool, also Sun VS Ilia, every time Yang is in action it is a blast.... except the rematch with Mercury, let's forget that xD
Also fight between maidens, it was very good, but I think they are not getting it all good because of the new shows they opened up.
I don't know about the time when first 3 volumes came out, but I noticed that in the last few months a couple of new shows started going out from this studio..
Maybe they take time for polishing RWBY..
Also, the first thing that I want in vol 6 is the talk between Yang and Blake.
I think Yang just settled up because of the group for that moment and didn't really forgive Blake...I hope, i would be too easy..

Honestly, Blake running off was really dumb. Why would she ditch her friends after what had just happened? Didn't make any sense to me at all, and it didn't feel like it was the same situation as when she ditched the White Fang. I have always thought she had grown as a character since then and It just seemed so out of character for her at the time. I didn't take her for a ditcher, but RT had firmly established her as one now, and now I am at a loss, because either it's not going to be easy for her to fit in with the team and we get another volume of unnecessary drama and a friction between characters that didn't even have to be there if they hadn't made Blake take this path in the first place, which means another volume spent on something that is a literal storm in a water glass in the grand scheme of things (Salem and all), which is why I would actually prefer if Blake got off the hook easy, (let's be honest, when you're worried about someone and they return in one piece, you tend to forgive them, you might be mad at them at first, but as soon as you get it off your chest, you're ready to hug them and just be happy they're finally with you.
Then again, would this sort of behavior be out of character for Yang? It might be. She's certainly holding a grudge against Raven. Blake really abandoned her too, or it must have seemed that way to Yang at the time.
And this is again a corner RT have written themselves into. I don't understand why they feel the constant need to make things so unnecessarily convoluted. XD
