Description Screams echoed in my mind
Even though I'd run away
To a family of silent fifty-year old trees
Where I was anything but alone,
And the rain fell hard on my sneakers.

I sang songs- some sad, some happy
And they echoed in my 12-year old mind
Even when I'd started another.
The raindrops dripped from my raincoat's hood
And dropped onto my face with my tears.

Why hadn't I done this before
When I needed it more
Than now, when it was only screaming?
Why did I lock myself in my room
When I had the world at my crying expense?

Off-key melody, mellow and whole,
Reverberated through the wet woods
Behind my ugly gray house in a five-street neighborhood.
Leaves collected throughout years on the ground
Made a soggy carpet under the puddles,
And the rain fell hard on my sneakers.
