She was the first animal to orbit the Earth in 1954. She died to overheating and stress about 5-7 hours after launch, but this wasn't public information before the year 2002. Soviets had claimed that she either died to food poisoning, lack of oxygen or that she was euthanised before she ran out of oxygen, because the dog's trip was meant to simulate another mammal's (human's) possibilites to travel in space.
Old story and it's so absurd to think, that there has been a mutt with a really shitty luck away from Earth's ground... So in this picture it looks like she would had died in the open space, when the truth was something else
