Zuhayr is a selfish, vain creature with an ego the size of a whale, who lets everyone know just how much he thinks of himself by constantly flaunting his feathers and glimmering iridescent tail and wings - of course, since he has four sets, he highlights this as well, making sure to have at least one pair in constant movement. His vanity knows no limits, and he often bedecks himself (Haniya does, moreso) with golden chains, gems, and jewels at every opportunity, not stopping at metals, but also sumptuous rare fabrics, and drapes. When in public, he is the perfect aloof beautiful creature - an ideal companion for those who run in the upper echelons of society - charming, seductive, extremely social and a witty conversationalist. He misses nothing when in a social situation, with a sharp mind for gossip and a silver tongue, saying just what is needed at the precisely perfect time.
History:
Zuhayr was hatched the only offspring of a doomed slaver, and his mate. When her one and only true love died, his mother, Jolia, retreated into the confines of her own mind and home, becoming a hermit and leaving her small foal to his own devices. When, near delirious with hunger, the tiny tiercel escaped from his mother’s hovel, he stumbled upon a feast in the making at a wealthy merchant’s abode and was spotted by a then seventeen year old Haniya, who immediately noted the gifts of Roth in the tiny body.
By the end of that day, the canny hen had tracked the foal back to where he’d come from, and forced Jolia to accept her aid, with the condition that Zuhayr would come under the tutelage of her paid tutors for the eventual purpose of being mated to one of her daughters and to some day inherit a number of investments and estates. Jolia agreed, and Zuhayr blossomed into a beautiful young tiercel, his sharp witticisms, lovely coat and abundance of plumage easily set him apart from all others.
When Jolia fell ill and died abruptly in Zuhayr’s seventh year, the true intentions of the hen Haniya were made obvious. With no daughters resulting from her last mate, and wealthy from taking on the estates of said prior deceased mates, the hen immediately claimed the young tiercel as her companion (much to the annoyance of a number of pretty, ambitious young hens), grooming him to be the perfect social butterfly in every way. While their relationship is completely platonic (though no one believes this), it is by far not the normal hen-tiercel bond that one would expect.
From beak tip to fabulous tail, Zuhayr is her pawn, her playing piece, and subtle strike against the set definitions of how hens and tiercels should act. Hens should stay at home, becoming loving devoted mates who will produce strong foals, and be respected and treasured for all of their days, while tiercels should be strong, ambitious, brave, and keep large harems that produce many offspring...Haniya has never liked this rhetoric. With a sense of great mirth and vicious humor, Haniya has made Zuhayr into a kept tiercel - much like the hens she used to despise in her youth - who is a lovely ornament for his much older mate’s machinations, a pretty, useless thing to help mock the world within their societies rules.
While Zuhayr honestly believes she loves him and is wholly devoted to her (Flirting notwithstanding), the elderly hen is far more pragmatic, particularly about the future. Zuhayr is oblivious to much Haniya has done or what her future plans are, and blithely sails through life in a glittery sweep of sultry smiles, and bright feathers.
