Description
This was me pulling out my paints after having not painted in a while. I would say I am quite rusty now a days.I wanted to try a painting of the Shenandoah Valley based on a photograph by the extremely talented somadjinn (Nicolas Raymond), you can see his piece here: fav.me/daxvbg5
His work never fails to take your breath away. He has visited so many beautiful locations and captured their beauty on film for all to enjoy. If you haven't already done so, please visit his page.
I hope to sharpen my painting skills back up and some day paint this image again.
This was painted with acrylic paints on a piece of wood with the bark still attached to the sides. I prefer wood surfaces over canvas.

Very nice. I like that the bark is still attached to the edges. This would look great hung up in a cabin!

I do love painting on wood. When I found this slab a while back I couldn't pass up the bark outline. It even has moss still attached to the bark too. I had planned to paint some birds on it but the more I looked at Nicolas Raymond's Shenandoah Valley pieces the more I couldn't resist giving it a try. My husband was born in the Shenandoah Valley area and grew up there too. When I showed him Nick's work he immediately went back to his childhood.
I could definitely see this in a cabin too. Lol!

Your "rusty" is still pretty darn good! Yeah that is both cool and unique to see someone painting on material that hasn't been highly processed. Your friend's photography is downright spectacular! I can imagine it easily evoking memories for your husband.

(I can't stand painting on canvas! 
His work is spectacular for sure and he has been a great sport in offering me the use of his photography. He has helped me to "think outside of the box" with some ideas lately.
