Description I remembered the afternoon I called you,
curled on my bed with someone's good book
in my palm, nestled softly in the waning light

and under my gently roaming fingers
the baby moved – not to my hand-touch,
but inside, an insistent flutter,

not like the swiftly beating heart
on the doctor's monitor, not like the slow
appearance of a plus-sign on a drugstore test.

I called you, my gently rolling daughter's
mother's mother. I called you like the woman
standing at my back while I held the kite string

on a pushy spring day, the diagonal shape so
far above us I could only feel the jerk of the
cord around my fingers, holding us to earth.

You captured that intimacy between mother and child, for three generations, so beautifully.. That fleeting time that is shared, a secret, maybe to the rest of the world.. a very powerful connection...goregeous phrasing.

Oh thank you so much. It is such a powerful bond. I still call her up regularly to say "You felt this with me!" or "You did this with me!" NOW I understand. Now I understand how much she really loves me. You just can't know until you stand there and think, "OH WOW." And just as amazing as that little flutter of life I made was the fact that I had someone else who loved ME that much. Powerful stuff. I'm glad you read and enjoyed.

I have a son of my own see...he is only 3 and a 3/4 months...but oh, I love him so much ever since I found out I was pregnant I would sing and rub my belly, he came out on his due date it was hard but amazing at the same time XD

My daughter was born 1 day before her due date! May 31, so she's getting close to 4 now. WOW. Haha. I went into labor at 9 PM on May 29 and they said my contractions were too far apart and sent me home. I lay on the couch and watched movies all night, rolling with the contractions, and I watched The Village and she sings this lullaby to her sister, [link] Sophie wasn't born until 5 AM on the 31st. Stubborn little bugger. But I've always sang her that lullaby and she loves it. They're so amazing.

For a long time there were only your
footprints & laughter in our dreams &
even from such small things, we knew we
could not wait to love you forever
