Description i dream of writing a poem for you.
soft pencil scribbles
incomprehensible & beautiful
as if i lead you blindfolded
to paradise
the path is mine alone
but sometimes i want to show you
as pictures: a light
i will never understand why you take everyone's lives so personally
this, it's chemistry
little parts of me reacting with
you
a volatile experiment
of exquisite precision
the reality that
some things aren't meant to be shared
there are no metaphors for
an edited version of
life.

Hey, this is a pretty fantastic first poem.
By the time I was 18 I had probably written 300 hundred poems, and I'm pretty sure they weren't this good.

Wow!!! I'm jealous. Hah. I had never read a poem until I was in 7th grade and our English teacher gave me some ee cummings on the side because he thought I'd like it. And I did, but honestly I never thought about writing it. Even in high school we didn't read much poetry beyond Shakespeare. I started writing after I went to a tiny art store with my folks and they had some Brian Andreas poetry. You can read him here: www.storypeople.com Or in my signature. Haha. He made me start experimenting. I did write a lot of stories when I was young. My dad was building computers before he even met my mom so I got an old, clunky, used laptop when I was pretty young and I started writing stories. Everyone said I'd grow up to be a great writer, they just never figured on the poetry part.

I honestly can't remember the first time I was exposed to poetry, other than Roses are red, violets are blue..., but maybe that's all it took for me to start writing and experimenting.

And I actually never got into reading poetry until I was in my mid 20s. Now I love reading it as much as writing it.

I remember the first time I heard Adrienne Rich's Twenty-One Love Poems. My professor read it in class and I'd never heard anything so amazing and beautiful. I think I knew after that poetry was always going to be a huge part of my life. I love reading poetry, but writing it... It's this amazingly powerful thing. To create a poem, to be able to do that... nothing is better than that.

LOL. Well, I was an English major and I had read a LOT of poetry before I even gave it a go. Actually it was this guy that made me want to write poetry: [link]

Not bad for a first poem! Apparently you've had a knack for poetry and didn't know it.

I know!! Someone told me I should write a poem and I was 19 and my mom and I were just moving from "mom & daughter" to "friends" and there were these things I wanted to tell her so I thought "I'll write a poem and give it to her!" And she took it from there Thank god for awesome moms who believe in the first thing you've ever tried to write. Altho I think I got it from her because a couple years ago her therapist had her write a poem and it totally rocked! And she never writes. And I'm rambling. LOL. Good thing I'm not famous enough for interviews.

Haha eight favourites.

It's actually pretty good! I can see your current style already meshed in there. It has unique imagery (which is so much better than my first poems), which is fantastic for a first poem. You started out much better than I did! haha

I think it's interesting that my first poems were all about romance...and I'm still at it.

Well, I was 19 when I started writing. I think I started because I had these feelings I couldn't explain to anyone. (I didn't even know if I wanted to.) And poetry seems to allow a release of feelings without ever having to say, Yes, I think X and Y
