Description The Blood of a Klutz
Prompt #2
9/13/12

"I need everything we have- a.s.a.p.! Fingerprints, photos, detective's report- and the note!"   Black suit crisp as a potato chip, shoes polished as a new limousine, and dark eyes narrowed- this man meant business. He barked out orders as he paced the aisle, hands clasped behind his back. Not five minutes later he had two hands full of paperwork and an uptight, nasally man standing erect in front of him.

"Talk to me." Mr. Black Suit ordered, kicking out a chair and spreading out his load on a dark wood desk. He began to sift through the papers, eyes skimming quickly as he habitually tousled his dark hair in thought.

"I arrived at the scene precisely eleven minutes after I was called. I began looking for fingerprints, but was unsuccessful. The abductor left everything clean. Photos were taken, as you can find here…" The nasally man pulled out a small stack of wallet-size photos that were sticking from the corner of a manila envelope on the man's desk and spread them in front of him. "As seen, nothing seemed to be out of place besides an overturned chair, and according to the mother…"

The man continued on, reciting his report mechanically as a robot. It was not until he flipped out a strange note in a plastic bag that things got interesting.
"…the ransom note was found on top of an oak wood table, pieced together from what we found to be letter clips for a variety of magazines. I began to analyze the note, but found nothing-"

"Detective. Let me see the note." The suited man instructed, holding out his hand expectantly. This detective had a history of missing obvious clues- which didn't deem well for a detective. But he was good for finding more in-depth data.

"Yes, sir." The detective pushed his glasses farther up on his skinny nose and handed the sterile bag to his boss, whom snatched it and began to scrutinize, eyes narrowing.  After a while, the detective began to grow impatient, but he didn't show it on his person in fear of offending the other man. He was sure as a rock that he hadn't missed anything. That note was clean and Boss was just being overly-cautious-

"What's this?" Boss raised one sharp eyebrow and pointed to the edge of the creamy paper, seemingly at nothing. Uptight and annoyed, the detective leaned over like a hawk to see what he was referring too.

"I- oh." He stumbled, and raised his glasses, eyes narrowing as he analyzed. A miniscule splotch of dark crimson discolored the paper, and was nearly invisible next to the oddly colored lettering. But once you took a good look, it was impossible to miss.

"Paper cut." Said the suited man.

"Right." Said the detective, and snatched the package back. "I'll run a test on this and try and get some DNA. Then see if we can find a match." Cold sweat could obviously be seen shining on the detective's forehead as he bustled away, clearly embarrassed for his idiotic mistake.

Honestly. Half the time I feel as if I'm the detective around here. The suited man thought with a roll of his eyes, before he swung around on his chair and returned to his mass of paperwork. Back to business. But first he had to contemplate his discovery on the ransom note.

A paper cut? Really? It was almost comical. The abductor had been stupid enough to slice his finger on the edge of the paper and even stupider to have some blood fall right into their hands. He must have been in a real hurry to get that little girl out of there. How had he known that the wealthy family had a young daughter, anyhow? The ransom note had been quite precise and carefully thought out, but unfortunate for the abductor, all that hard work would go to waste on a little cut.

They were little more than shadows in the night. Sly as snakes and silent as clouds, nobody would suspect a thing. A small force of thirty or so secured the perimeter of the little town house while five waited for the order to break down the door. Pistol in hand and dressed in all-black attire, the Boss was ready to roll.
It was time. With a small series of hand signals, the Boss and his force approached the house face. Then with a hard kick, the door came crashing down. Instantaneously, sirens began to blare and the task force moved out, marching through the house in search of the abductor.
It wasn't long before they found him in bed, quite rudely awakened by their untimely arrival- and the little girl tied up to a chair next to the bed, sleeping uncomfortably. The balding man leaped from his sheets and charged for the window, still in his undergarments, but was caught by the Boss himself and easily wrestled to the floor. One agent came and attached a pair of silver handcuffs around his hairy arms, and the man finally realized he was beaten. He fell to his knees and stared grimly ahead, trying to hide his surprise. The Boss then kneeled down in front of the man and smiled quite cheerfully.

"Hey. How's that finger?"
