everything is dark in that game, Hoshido might actually be the darkest timeline, but that is for each person to decide I guess.

GreatRose101 In reply to Icesticker [2016-05-16 06:15:39 +0000 UTC]

Personally I find conquest darker since it seems the hoshidans were more Hirt than the Nohrians xS
Not to mention how much the story favours Birthright

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Icesticker In reply to GreatRose101 [2016-05-16 07:04:00 +0000 UTC]

Birthright is definitely darker -------spoiler-----------------a whole lot more people die, did you see that ending with Xander -----------------------spoiler.

If you are talking about the royals, the Nohr royals are more hurt in my opinion. They grew uo with you, for the Hshidians some of them don't even know who you are. They've only really known you for like 3 days, while everyone in Nohr has known you for years.

GreatRose101 In reply to Icesticker [2016-05-16 13:42:38 +0000 UTC]

I did play both which is why I said what I said. And it's funny because despite growing up with the Nohrians the Hoshidans still looked far more hurt. (Camilla and Marx were scarier but but they have the same impact as Takumi or Ryoma xD)

Icesticker In reply to GreatRose101 [2016-05-16 19:30:27 +0000 UTC]

I didn't fel that way. I think the difference is that the Nohrians coninued to try to convince him to rejoin them and then took their pain out in anger, plus the whole Garon thing deflects a lot of their pain back to his madness.

Still how hurt each side is hardly matters to how dark the game is. The Hoshidans actively try to get rid of you, while the Nohrians are forced to by their tryannical fathe and get cuaght between their love for your and their duty to their obvious mad father. Then there is the death counts, and the death count in Birthright is considerably higher then in Conquest. Not to mention the way those deaths take place. It is by far the darker timeline.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GreatRose101 In reply to Icesticker [2016-05-16 20:04:05 +0000 UTC]

Not really
Other than Camilla no was trying to convince Mu to join Nohr again and even then her logic was to kill me. xD
Vs the Hoshidans were bargaining more. They didn't give up and try to end me off the bat.

Plus the death count is only more by like three people in Brithright.
Conquest is far darker because you know what you are doing is wrong it keeps telling you you are wrong
and it ends with no real understanding(as in it takes way to long to see who Garon really is).
In Birthright Camilla, Elise(and her retainers) are quick to realize. It was sad but there was a better chance at changing people's minds and getting a happier ending in Birthright.
Conquest gets in your mind ;A; specially with Hans and Garon!

Icesticker In reply to GreatRose101 [2016-05-16 22:18:24 +0000 UTC]

Everyone tries to convince you for like half the game, and then the second half they know you are right but they are ton by their duty. Even Xander knows you are right but he does what he does as the crown prince. That is much sadder then some strangers telling you to join them. 3 people is a lot of people, especially given who they are and how they die.

Conquest you are doing bad things (very rarely might I add because you subvert it a lot), but most of the time it is just you there when bad things happen. Corrin of that one adopts t e darkness to stop worse things from hapening. In birthright you still do some terrible things and you cause some pretty terrible deaths because you are indecisivie and naive.

GreatRose101 In reply to Icesticker [2016-05-17 04:41:47 +0000 UTC]

Nope. They pretty much gave up on you on the spot- unless you count bringing you back as a corpse- even Elise didn't bother with that. Vs the Hoshidans were trying their best to convince me otherwise by pointing out how much it makes more sense to choose them instead.
In Birthroght most of your decisions aren't 100% naive given the fact you know what's going on- and Conquest just rubs that in your face even before getting halfway through the game.

I prefer birthright- and I KNOW war is NOT black and White- but when you make it so obvious who are good and who are bad it sucks out some of the feels. Unlike Conquest- where tbh you IRONICALLY do a better job at getting the Nohrians to kill less- you don't have characters giving you PTSD.
Actually that's one of the only few other reasons I started liking Conquest.

Icesticker In reply to GreatRose101 [2016-05-17 06:30:32 +0000 UTC]

I don't know what game you played but Camilla and Leo both made several attempts to get you back, unti of course Leo gave up. Xander clearly put his duty over his love as he clearly states over and over, and Elise was always trying to get you back. Her entire part in that game was trying to fix her family. The Hosidians just cried about blood, as if that is the most important thing that makes you realted while the Nohr royals played to your memories with them, a much more real indication of family, s it is understandable if they were a lot more hurt by your choice. They treated Corrin like a brother even though e was not of blood, they considered him a brother, regardless of how he came to them, and by choosing Hoshido you bascially spat all over those feelings. it is understandable if they are more angry. They grew up in a place where loyalty to the king trumps all and they were obviously conflicted between that duty and their feelings, especially Camilla, but in the end expect for Elise they all sided with their emotions or hurt and their duty. It is a much sadder tale.

I rather liked Birthright for not pulling its punches at the end, because I see it as the much darcker game even though it is billed as the traditional lighter game. I was really hoping conquest would not take the "fight from within" route it did and set you on a course to challenge your morality as a player.

For like chapter SIX yeah. Then they give up on you. Camilla tires to get you back by killing you- her first quote sent shivers down my back- TWICE.
Leo straight up says he hates you and his cutscene is just about killing you- though he says later on he was lying even though he would've come second closest to killing you.
And Elise states she wasn't going to join you nor convince you, just get Xander NOT to kill you. Xander whom try's to kill ou right away.
The Hoshidans were way nicer and more careful(well not really Takumi but I don't blame him)
Choosing Brithright is much more obvious so they kill off a few characters.
In Conqust however it's always spitting on your choice making you regret it. You feel the PTSD, you feel the characters get in your head. That is far worse.

plus Elise......that alone makes it the darkest timeline.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Icesticker In reply to GreatRose101 [2016-05-17 17:47:02 +0000 UTC]

I don't think it is because you expect that from Nohr, you know it is supposed to be th non-traditional version. Birthright is labaled as the traditional story and the bright story, and then throws all that at you. Overall Nohr is supposed to be dark, so to me when birthright throws those curveballs it has a more lasting effect then a story that is constantly pushing it.

Xander actively admits in conquest that you are right, but he must do his duty and kill you as a traitor because he is the crown prince.

Well that's one way to put it but BECUASE BR is so nice it has darker moments that contrast so greatly- but that doesn't make nessecarily the darkest timeline.
Conquest is just Dark so its happy moments contrast greatly. However that doesn't make it the better timeline. What happened with Elise was sad but conquest(altogether of course) doubles that. Just through out ALL the story and not just one depressing cutscene.
