Description All of this hard work makes me really wish I could have a break! I sculpted a little private desert island, where I can finally sit down and relax!

The first thing I did was grab some items from the lab, some bolts, carving tools, rope, marker pens, glue, a long metal pole and a ladder.

As I approached the mountain I assessed it, looking for large patches of colour that I was interested in, after I spotted all of the desired colours, I began scaling the mountain. I pushed a ladder up to the side of the mountain, it wasn't too tall, but at the same time it did the job, I was able to reach the colours that I wanted. I took out a marker pen and started drawing dotted lines around the parts of the mountain that I wanted to carve out so that I would remember where they were and so I could further assess the mountain and decide what the most effective method of cutting the rock out was.

Using a chisel, I began chipping away at the mountain, at first all I wanted was some relatively small parts of different colours. Purple, orange and green. They were quite simple to get, basic carving tools did the trick. As I cut out the chunks of rock, they fell down to the ground, but due to their size they did not break upon impact.

Having gotten all the smaller pieces, I needed to start working on the larger pieces. For the base of my sculpture, I needed a huge amount of blue rock and also a decently large amount of yellow rock. These colours could be found all across the mountain and luckily for me, they could also be found at the base of the mountain. While I was still up on the ladder, I knocked off a few large chunks of blue and yellow, but they broke when they hit the ground, this would be fine however, as I could glue them together again later.

At the base of the mountain I was able to use my tools to carve out huge amounts of blue and yellow rock. It took some time, but after a while I finally had enough rocks to start building my finished piece.

As I said I would earlier, I began putting my base together. Using entirely blue rocks, I was able to glue the chunks together, using chunks with flat edges as side pieces, just like solving a puzzle! Eventually I was left with a very large blue rock base, which was a little rough, but would do the job just fine. Using my carving tools, I was able to smooth over some of the yellow rocks, giving them a dome like appearance, I then stuck the pieces together with glue and then used some ring bolts to attach the yellow part to the blue base.

Using some of my purple rock, I was able to fashion a long, trunk-like shape. Once again I used some ring bolts to fasten it down to the base pieces. My sculpture was starting to take shape. I carved the green rocks into the shape of palm fronds and, using a ladder to reach the top of the trunk, ring bolted the leaves to the top centre of the trunk. Realising the possibility of my sculpture falling due to weight imbalance, I used the metal pole to hold the leaves to the very base of the sculpture. This would steady the tree and make sure that the weight was being held up by something other than the trunk.

Now all the big bits were done I could focus on the finishing touches. Using my orange rock I carved a little crab, which could balance on the side of the sand on its own. I used the rest of my purple rocks to make some coconuts to sit beneath the tree and last but not least. I carved some tiny fish and glued them to the side of the base piece, so they could swim beneath the island!

And just as a bonus for myself, I used the few remaining pieces that I had to carve myself a tiny fake coconut drink! Now I was finally done and ready to relax in the sunshine!

Thank you.
