Description Kicking it old school! With some scenic fan art of my all-time favorite childhood NES video game:

SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 (USA)

This started as a character doodle dump idea, featuring characters from the game. But I just couldn't decide on who to draw. But in the end, I went with a scene instead.

I'm really happy with how this came out. ^U^

Yes, I put USA in parentheses in that title. Why? Because, for those who don't know, there are actually 2 different Super Mario 2 games. Japan's Super Mario Bros. 2 (a.k.a. The Lost Levels) and USA's Super Mario 2, which is actually a Japanese game, Doki Doki Panic, with sounds and graphics tweaked to play more like a Mario game.

The Lost Levels is a great game, very challenging, even to this day. I highly recommend to those who still find the original SMB too easy.
But if I had to choose, the USA game is my idea of the true sequel. Lost Levels introduced reverse warp zones and Poison Mushrooms.
But Super Mario 2 introduced players to so many characters, objects and gameplay mechanics. The music is also very memorable and even gets remixed from time to time.

To name as many as I can:
Shy Guy and his diverse cousins, Bob-Omb, Ninji, Pokey, Birdo, POW Blocks, Warp Doors, keys for locked doors, the ability to pick up and throw. Desert worlds w/ quicksand, icy terrains in Snow Worlds. All of these and more were essentially introduced to many players who played this game first.

When you look at how much was brought over to later games, this game really does give us a lot to be thankful for. You know? And I'm glad I can look back at Super Mario Bros. 2 for a nice trip down memory lane~

Enjoy everybody!

All characters belong to Nintendo!
