Description "Wow, a joke about economics. Man, this comic's really going downhill, huh?"

It's time for another Mario-related jokester's right of passage: a joke about how a bunch of golden coins found literally everywhere can manage to hold value. Aren't I just hilarious. Yeah, it's a played out joke, but that's why I always try to look for new ways to look at a joke. Here, it's just taking those moments of the Beanbean Kingdom's cataclysmic value shifts from throughout Superstar Saga and adds one final part to it. Mario and Luigi saved a whole kingdom and they got way less than a lousy shirt. Art-wise, I really like it. Big surprise with how much I can't help but force me to one-up myself all the time heh heh he... that's for later. Anyhoohoo, Translating the sprites of the Beanish characters into my style is something I haven't done in a long time, but I've managed to get better since then. Lady Lima in particular was quite the fun challenge that I think came out great. Funny enough, Mario probably intimidated me more than any other character because I'm still trying to fix some old mistakes with the brothers that they've had for... hmm... like 7 years? I think. Yeah. SPEAKING OF

Happy 7 years, 3 months, and 2 day anniversary... eh. I feel like crap.

UPLOADS

There's 6. I like them. It was nice to finish King Sammer's arc. SFM was a fun thing to mess with again. Uh... I can't guarantee this section won't look worse next year.

HOWEVER. Looking at only comics this year is a horrifically incomplete story of SSM's 7th year. If you didn't know, I joined CAB (the Colosseum Animation Bunch) last year and worked on the animated bumper for TRG Colosseum 2023! For more info, check out the upload about it on the SSM Art page www.deviantart.com/ssm-art/art… or just watch it here  or here  I guess. It's still insane to me that this is a even a thing I got to do. It took a lot of my focus away from comics because I can only handle one high-priority project at a time. If I'm gonna put in my perfectionist work on a project that will be available on the internet for all eyes to see, then it had to be the charity one. Also, I'm definitely the most inexperienced animator on the team, and I didn't want to mess it all up by splitting my attention. They still haven't kicked me out, so I have to have done something right, huh?

BEHIND THE SCENES: CATCH-UP

This is just a section for updates about things brought up last year. Burnout is still a HUGE issue in every way mentioned last year, the ideas I talked about last year are still being iterated and added on to, I'm almost at a place where I'm happy with all the arcs I've got planned, Hannah's still funkying her times, and I've got some things I really want to finish for SSM Art.

And, since I haven't said anything in 5 months... uhhhhhhhhh. Pikmin 4 is awesome go play it I don't want another decade wait I've already had to deal with 2. The new Mario game looks cool, y'know, the one where you can play as Mario and Luigi exploring a brand new kingdom while equipping badges, drilling into the ground and meeting strange natives: one whose name is like "pop" but with an L and another who's a prince and is green. GO LISTEN TO THE BIT-MUSICALS BY MATTHEW TARANTO PLEASE DAISIES AND END OF DAY ARE SO GOOD. Toontown celebrated it's 20th birthday and TTR's about to celebrate it's 10th birthday and will be older than the original game wow what a world huh.

BEHIND THE SCENES: HIGH-TECHNICAAAAAAAAAL

Last year, I finally got myself an honest-to-goodness drawing tablet with a screen, meme glove, and everything. I like it, but it's not as convenient to work on. Like, I can't work on it while lying in bed like I can with my current "tablet". Another issue I had was how to hook it up to my PC since it only has 1 HDMI slot and I really want audio while I draw. Then VR came to the rescue! I wanted to hook up my VR headset again and that also needed a second HDMI port. Luckily, I've got an empty display port, so one adapter later and I've fixed both problems. IN FACT, this is the first SSM comic to use the tablet... for the text. BUT LET ME TELL YOU it was so nice to not go through the horrid process of writing the dialogue on my "tablet" for once. Using a pen while resting my hand on the canvas instead of just using my finger makes a WORLD of difference.

BEHIND THE SCENES: WHAT NEXT?

So, plans for next year: I want to use the new tablet. It's gonna need some getting used to before it becomes the de-facto SSM machine, but I'm willing to put in that work because I can't stand the old tablet anymore (just before it hit it's 10th year too). I have already started messing with it and it does feel good to use, but I haven't done anything like a serious SSM comic yet. That's where perfectionism will take hold and the biggest issues will arise. If it goes well, though, this might open up a ton of ideas to finally become full-fledged SSM comics. Seriously, there's so many that I just didn't want to make on the current/old/garbage tablet. Unless this process goes incredibly smoothly, I can't see any major projects getting off the ground this year so no arcs and no huge event comics (as much as there's ones I REALLY want to make). If things do slow down to an absolute crawl, just know I'm still working on SSM even if I go radio silent for months. On another note, there's some new things I've been messing around with, so those will show up on SSM Art at some point I'm sure (just like that Hat Kid art I promised last year).

THANK YOU

Once again, I dedicate the last section to a thank you. This year deserves one in particular if there's anyone who's actually been trying to keep up with this ghost town. This is still a fun outlet for me even if the act of making these comics can get all sorts of [INSERT NEGATIVE DESCRIPTOR HERE]. I like making characters and telling their stories too much to just give this up. It also helps knowing that someone enjoys the stories and jokes that I get to tell. Even if it's not that many. Hope you're doing well, thank you so much, and I'll hopefully be back here again before next year.
