Consider this: at her normal weight, her arm cannon needs to be calibrate so the blast packs a bad enough punch, but not so much that it sends Samus flying from the resulting pullback.
At this weight, however, not only is she firmly planted on the ground where there's less throwback and thusly more punch, but she can also get an upgrade to a heavier (and punchier) arm cannon that treats her new weight like her old cannon treated her old weight!
