Description I've seen weird insects, spiders and other tiny creatures, but this one is the weirdest so far.

Not sure what that big black thing is, but it seemed very much attached to the little wurm. Anybody have an idea what they call this?

Awsome picture!!
You could suggest it as a spotting on www.projectnoah.org (a project started by nationnal geographic) and ask help for identification, sometimes you can get pretty quick responses. That's what I do when I have a hard time finding out what's the name of what I photographed ^^

This looks like the parasitic fungus Cordyceps growing from a caterpillar. I would need to see it from more angles to be sure though

That is very possible! I'll dig into that, maybe I can verify it. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of another angle..
