Description We were on that tiny porch and
you were smiling
grinning, beaming about
anything, really, we'd cast off calm;

The light caught your face in its palms.
I leaned against the black
iron rail and watched you talk
to someone else, you said something, who knows what

(Who was thinking about anything,
who was concentrating right then?)

Your arms hugging your knees
to your chest, keeping it in while
you pretended to let it out, saying words
but saying nothing
like to mother, sister, brother.

And now like with the other
though it had pushed through the soil back a while
I want to simply watch you work, or smile

eat a groggy breakfast,

make a bed.
