Since I haven't seen much of the show, I'm not familiar with Dr. Jackal, but that pose looks cool and menacing.

That's the one--you really should watch the whole show. Or, better yet, read the manga.

Does the manga go farther than the anime? I heard that the anime just kind of stops. Is that correct?

Yeah, the anime has two full seasons, but at the end they're kind of like "we'll be back to solve the mystery"...only not, because there is no season 3. Of course, season 2 is very different from the manga, for the most part. The manga has 30-something (maybe 40-something?) books, so it does go much further and the mystery behind the limitless fortress is revealed. There are also some pretty cool stories that explore the backgrounds of some other characters, new characters, and alot of character growth for Ginji and Ban, and a couple of flash-back stories about Ban and Ginji's first two cases (you get to see Ban go from "Mido-kun" to "Ban-chan").
