Nice though they kind of look wrong as dogs. However I like the doglike interpretation of them.

I like them all, but Raikou is my favourite. I love that it looks like a Sabre tooth cat and that it's an electric type. So, in the past, I would alwaysΒ try to catch Raikou first.
Are there any PokΓ©mon you hate, or really dislike?

Mhmmm. I think my least favorite is Slaking; he's rather ugly-- and his loafing around thing makes him unbearable in battles;;

I like them all. HOWEVER, in all fairness, I have only caught Entei about one time.
What of the other Legendaries? Have any other favorites?
My favorite element is lightning. I love them all, but Jolteon is just incredible.
Oh my gosh, yeah, I know what you're feeling!
I don't have a sing hated Pokemon I have a few, all based on different reasons. What about you?

Hi there, and thank you for the rude reply on a comment from 2014! It was very unnecessary but, dare I say, brave?
I stand by the "original" sprites being rather dog-like in design--Β but with the additional release of the unused Johto sprites, the claim is as solid as concrete.
Β
But thank you very much for the input.

"Not really" isn't rude? Merely disagreeing with someone's opinion isn't rude? So no need to be so passive aggressive. But yeah, the original designs were more doglike and very different, with Suicune really looking like a pony even. However, those designs are not canon, they're barely even the same pokemon, save for the names. Johto had a lot of unused pokemon actually. I don't want to argue with you and it's not even an important issue, though I'm open for discussion if you want to talk about it.

"I don't want to argue with you" *necros a comment from 2014 just to disagree, which is definitely rude and argumentative*

I'm sorry for jumping down your throat too, this is just a topic that has worn me out over the years (a very frequent one). Seeing it get brought back up on an older drawing...
I have entirely too strong opinions about loosely interpreting fantasy creatures, and I'm sorry for being a right asshole about it.

Susiron In reply to finiens [2014-07-11 16:11:47 +0000 UTC]
The disagreement comes from the fact that the very first sprites for the three (the Gold and Silver sprites) looked more like dogs/foo dogs. They were all later refined, though, and so a lot of argumentation has come from the changes.
Past that, they are commonly referred to as the "legendary beasts" now since they all don't fit well into a single species group.
Suicune doesn't look like cheetah, so the cat theory I see many people use doesn't hold weight, though it's very popular alongside the dog theory. As for the dog theory, Raikou makes that one a bust so it only holds weight if referencing the original sprites.
Suicune is more of a kirin, though its anatomy is very dog-like. Entei could be seen as a lion, but it can also be perceived as a foo dog. Raikou is the only one I would call a cat in good faith, as it is clearly tiger-based. So all in all, I think it's impossible to genuinely call them all cats or all dogs.
People are definitely open to their interpretations and I love seeing people draw them in all sorts of ways! C:

The legendary dogs was a simple mistranslate, they are actually known as the legendary beasts.

This comment is from a year ago dude e __ e
The "legendary dogs" thing DOES comes from the sprites as well. People saw the original sprites, assumed they were dogs, and it stuck. They're clearly not all dogs in more refined versions, but the title has stuck nostalgically for many people regardless. It's not just about the translation, it's also about how people first saw and perceived the Pokemon. The original sprites were all very foo dog-like, which did not help with the confusion.
Please look at dates before jumping into conversations.

It was mainly a mistranslatation.
If you read this article that someone posted, it explains how the dog name came to be and alot of other stuff about these Pokemon.
:thumb456080223: if the picture dosen't appear just find the article, its called "On Entei, Raikou and Suicune" and is by deviant called ShadeofShinon.
Also if you look up legendary dogs mistranslate on Google, you will also find sites that explain that it was a mistranslate, their sprites might of also been part of why the trio are known as dogs (I honestly don't think their original sprites from Gold and Silver made them look like canines, except for Suicune even though he is not a dog).

Susiron In reply to ShinyHunterTrix [2015-09-16 10:07:32 +0000 UTC]
I still believe it was a heavily mixed issue due primarily to the vague designs of the sprites. Pokemon in general can be vague-- the earlier sprites in particular.
Their anatomy in the original sprites is very dog-like (and suicune's anatomy to this day is very dog-like, regardless of its resemblance to qilin).
The mistranslation clearly had a hand in this issue but I don't feel it is the sole reason why the name stuck so firmly. Honestly, I don't even remember the mistranslation much, just the visuals. Had Raikou looked in the earliest games as it does now, the naming issue would probably have not existed or at least been extremely unheard of. The early Raikou sprite screamed foo dog (and the other two also), hence no one questioned why it was called a dogΒ i.ytimg.com/vi/exG220Mur04/hqdβ¦
Now please, I'm not interested in discussing this further with you. Please feel free to interrupt a comment chain that hasn't shriveled up and died, you're beating a long-dead horse. It seems like we agree to a degree, but just disagree on which reason was more important to the issue. I don't see any further point in discussion.

It's amazing art!
With the point, that this PokΓ©mon are legendary cat's and no dogs!
Suicune is a cheetah; Entei a lion and Raikou a mix between tiger and a smilodon!Β

Susiron In reply to Yami-Oscuridad [2014-03-02 11:38:44 +0000 UTC]
They're neither cats nor dogs, but I could honestly care less.
Entei can be attributed to a lion or a large hairy dog, Suicune is more canine/kirin than anything, and Raikou is the only one of the bunch that can be directly likened to a single animal-- a tiger-- although in the original Gold/Silver sprites, Raikou looks somewhat like a foo dog.
I'm frankly sick of getting into arguments with people over this, or people commenting on images I draw of these three, starting debates over what they are based upon/meant to be.
If you want to see them as cats, more power to you, but kindly leave me and my desired interpretation of these three alone.Β
Besides-- I maintained feline traits within Raikou, so I think it's quite clear my image title should be taken with a grain of rice.
