Art trade with of a horse

I've had this sketched out and half the background done for a few weeks now but I only just got around to finishing it off. It was really nice to just sit down, forget all my homework, and paint for hours without distraction. I think I might take up painting more often with watercolours because I really just don't leave myself time for art anymore even though watercolours will be the death of me e.e Might actually open crits for this one, as I'd really like to improve! ^.^
I really don't like how the background turned out though, but I'm happy with the horse itself..bar the face maybe, I couldn't get the face right The scanner ate the colours a little too, in real life it looks a little more blueish and the sand isn't as orange. Also sorry for the crinkles in the page, I think I need better watercolour paper :I
