This is an illustration for Wuji Tianyuan Temple, a Taoist Temple in Tamsui, Taiwan. When I was there for the first time, I was deeply impressed by the majestic and peaceful atmosphere there. It felt to me as if this was a sacred land for Taoists to contemplate and do meditation, maintaining a spiritual life. In mythology, Taoists who have found out the true essence of the universe - Tao, would become immortals or Gods.

In this illustration, I tried to portrait an old Taoist (in white) who was waiting for his two students (standing on the white crane) to come back to the temple. The diagram in black and white beneath the temple is the Taijitu (太極圖), a symbol in Taoism phylosophy and some other philosophies in ancient China, which represents two contrary forces of the universe - Yin and Yang (陰陽)
