Just the way how I did it...
- Pencil sketch (scanned)
- Vector outlines made with Illustrator
- Color base
- Flat colours
- Shading
- Light, highlights and other effects

What tools are used for the shading and light effects?

Mostly I use a the lasso tool or the brush tool to make the shapes of the shadows and the lights, they are always on a separate layer with a different oppacity.

Just out of curiousity, why do you put red inside your pics after the lineart is finished? I see that you and Lizkay do that.

This is my colour base layer, it it's just the complete area that will get coloured later only filled with one colour.
I need that layer just to be able to make a quick selection of the "to-colour-area" by keeping ctrl pressed and clicking on that layer.
But when the flat colour is finished I don't have any use for that layer.
