The shoebill bird (Balaeniceps rex) is a very special looking bird. Its special hunting technique means that shoebills only live in swampy areas with soft bottoms. It lives in a belt that goes from northern Zambia in the south to southern Sudan in the north, but only in swamps, especially papyrus swamps such as the Mabamba Bay Wetlands. Today, somewhere between 5,000 and 8,000 shoebills live in the wild.25165
