Can I ask what your approach is? do you work by eye?

I don't have any particular approach. Sometimes I start with a nose and then I paint the rest randomly (its more fun), sometimes I use a grid when I want to paint faster... But overall its by eye.

ok ^^ do you work hard, and almost finish, one part before you go on to the next or do you work on everything little by little getting further on it? Do you make a full sketch first? Just curious, cause you are very good.

When I was young, I used to do that. But it's way too dangerous because you have a lot of chances to make an ugly portrait, it's important to keep an overall view to your painting. If you spend 1 hour in a tiny part and this part is wrong, you lost 1 hour. I start small, like at 25% zoom, then I do the basic forms, next I go to 50% and I refine the overall thing and then I zoom to 100% to make the tiny details. I think it's a good approach to paint, you don't want to get directly to 100% because you won't be able to see the overall of your painting, so start small and messy than define little by little.
About the sketch, well it depends. If I use the grid, yeah I will start with a grid, otherwise no.

ok. cool. cause i usually work from loose to refined like you, but I am thinking that a sketch is the ultimate loose method and thus it will be much less to correct if something is wrong, just sort of wondering what you think about that.

There is no special "right" way to paint, we have to find the most confortable for us. I would say the most secure way to paint is sketching and it's important to think in 3D or your painting has good probabilities to look flat. So if you do a sketch, try to build a structure... but I can't help you much more about that, it's all about anatomy and sketching methods.

I have a fair amount of knowledge, which you can see if you check my work. But I see that you are good and I always seek to improve, I am trying to improve or make sure I have the best of approaches to painting. So i asked you because i figured you could explain how you work and why. But I am sorry if i bothered you. I always aim to learn from the people I think can teach me something ^^Thanks for your response anyway!

I like to help and be helped, don't worry

I checked your gallery, you have good work, I would say what could make an improvment is the way you use the brush and the brush itself. Keep practicing, hard work is the secret.
