Yeah Mai didn't look very happy in Omashu with her family. Despite teh fact that her parent love her they put a lot of pressure on Mai and that made her close off on them to the point where they are no longer a family.

Very nice! I just love the whole ambiance of the image and I think you captured her expression very well! The flying hair, I love that too--something about flying hair (I swear it's not because of Fabio!!!) although I would imagine her sleeves would be moving with equal velocity for how fast the wind must be moving to get her hair almost horizontal!
Despite that, nothing to complain about. I like the cloud around the moon--interesting touch! Mai RULES!!

Fabulous job. Though I am an avid Zutarian, I don't deny that Maiko is cannon, at least one-sidedly. But I still hold to the firm belief that Zutara wins out in the end. It's just too perfect for the plot to turn out otherwise.

Mike and Bryan DID say that there will be some good twists in there... and BESIDES, just look at how perfect Zutara/Taang is for bringing peace at the end of the series. If Zutara DOES indeed happen, it would probably be towards the end of the series. There will probably be a little Maiko thing happening in the beginning of the season, but I think that might head down the same path as Sokka and Yue did, with Mai making some noble sacrifice or something so that Zuko can go on and go look for Ursa (which Mike and Bryan DID confirm as definately happening).

There doesn't necessarily have to be another "Zutara cave" for Zutara to happen. They could just meet up WITH the rest of the gaang present. Mai might go with Zuko to search for Ursa, but that's about as unlikely as a repeat of the zutara cave. It's more likely that Zuko breaks Iroh out and drops him off with the gaang before going to search for his mother, therefore meeting and reconciling with Katara. But I think it's a given that Zuko will join the gaang at some point or another. It's kind of forshadowed in "The Chase", and in the last "Escape From The Spirit World" mini-sode, Both Iroh AND Zuko are shown with the gaang when Avatar Yangchen tells Aang about the importance of living WITH all different kinds of people. If that's not foreshadowing, I don't know what is!

Clearly, but the question is, when or where. It could wait until the Gaang breaks into Ozai's war room.
I'm picturing something along the lines of Zuko, Mai, Ursa, and possibly Ty Lee taking one route into the palace while the Gaang plus Iroh (and maybe Jeong Jeong and/or Pakku and/or Bumi and/or Suki and/or someone else) comes in via another route....
It'll be HUGE.

Yeah, but then Aang wouldn't be LIVING with Zuko, like the hint says. And I think there's more of a chance of Ty Lee going with Zuko to help look for Ursa than Mai. In my opinion, Mai is just in too deep if you know what I mean. And Ty Lee is too nice to stay with Azula for long.

I'm not saying that Mai's not important, but just keep in mind that Mai went with Azula willingly while Ty Lee was kind of forced. Although I do think Mai will turn good in the end, I doubt she'll leave Azula. Though if she doesn't make noble sacrifice for Zuko, she will probably betray Azula during the final battle. I love both Mai and Ty Lee's characters and can't wait to see some good stuff with them in season three. And on the topic of Zutara vs. Maiko, Maiko will happen at some point, that's a given. But that doesn't mean it has to last. I really do believe that Zutara will happen eventually, even if it's only at the very end of the series.

Mai might have gone with Azula because she knew what Azula would do if she refused. Besides, she wasn't doing any good around the city--she was bored and wanted to do something, and Azula brought here out. Afterwards, though, Mai wasn't exactly eager to help in the mission. She even defied Azula's orders in the battle outside of Ba Sing Se.
She went with Azula willingly mainly for the reasons of leaving, though. She didn't know what the mission was, she didn't care, all she wanted was to leave the city. Note that Azula waited until they were leaving the city to tell her. Mai's also smart enough to know that Azula gets what she wants--Ty Lee dropped the subtle hint of "Well, Azula called a little louder." Mai probably picked that up immediately as, "Well, it WAS, but Azula said that she'd kill me if I didn't go." And Mai's got a family in Omashu--it's not just her own safety. Why resist? She only had one option, really. But it was what she wanted--to leave the city.
I'm looking at Maizu to be similar to Yuokka or Sukka--an actual romance.
Consider, as well, the marrying age. I might have already mentioned this with you, but recall that Mai is fifteen and Zuko sixteen. Mai could easily turn sixteen in the next season, placing her at marrying age for the Northerm Water Tribe, and possibly the Fire Nation as well. It might be the only chance for a marriage that we get, besides Sokka and Suki.
Mai has been reluctant to do much throughout....she just wanted out of the city, but she really hasn't been that bad throughout.
Was there something else about her?

I'm holding to the belief that Maiko will turn out like Yuokka. Definately a romance going on there, but it would only last for a couple episodes before something big happens to end it. Maybe this new villain will kill her, or maybe she finds out that her parents want her to marry someone else who isn't banished. But I don't deny that there is definately something going on there. And from my Zutara fan's point of veiw, to me, Zutara is a hell of alot more interesting than Maiko. Zuko and Mai have very similar personalities, and probably already had a thing going on. It would be kind of boring for the plot compared to Zuko and Katara, who keep with the whole balance and opposites attract thing. Not to mention that forbidden romance is far more exciting than just plain romance. Also may I make a point that Oma and Shu were wearing red and blue, if you want to run with the whole reincarnation theory, AND also note that so far, no same-nation romance in Avatar has ever lasted more than a couple episodes anyway. And there's also the point that Katara seems to have a thing for bad boys with sob stories. (coughJetcough)

Jet was also the one that she later hated completely. Yes, there's a lot of Zutara foreshadowing, I acknowledge that, but canonically, it's going to be very, very difficult to pull off.
As it is, Zuko is no longer banished. Azula was right, and I believe that she is doing far more than planning a betrayal--Zuko as an ally is an incredible asset. She'll want to keep him for whatever reasons. Also, more importantly, placing Zuko back in the Fire Nation will allow us to be introduced to Fire Lord Ozai. We'll be able to see who he is--the father side of him, the true manipulating genius of a villain that he has been foreshadowed to be. We'll be seeing a lot of the Fire Nation.
Furthermore, Mai doesn't seem to be the type to let her parents forbid her from anything, regardless of what the culture is.
I think it'll be a whole-season thing. Grey DeLisle says that Mai will have Zuko whipped and that she's actually her favorite character...Mike and Bryan love her....she's going to have a much bigger role in the next season....
Maizu's had its share of foreshadowing, too--an anvil-sized hint, as Rowling would say, or would that be a Zuko-sized hint?
We haven't seen enough of Mai's character to make proper judgments. Even I'm hesitant to settle on her personality--is she independent or arrogant, sensible or vain?
I'm theorizing that she played a very important role in Zuko's life--I can see her helping Zuko through the time following his mother's departure.
Mai and Zuko are similar, yes, but don't forget how they've changed. They are similar on their own--but who knows what they are like when they are together?
Alone, they are more sullen, and searching for something. Together, they complete each other. Zuko provides Mai with the sort of life she wants--a life of change and action. Mai, meanwhile, can provide a cool and level head for Zuko, who usually lets emotions rule him. Zuko never thinks things through, according to Iroh--Mai tends to think things through, most of the time. Wall-sludge juice, "Just take the bear," etc. She's mastered neutral jing--waiting for the moment to strike, not rushing into situations that have no achievable ends.
She's also not much of a looker, and THAT is one thing that I feel will make the Maizu ship all the better. Zuko's ditched three of the show's more attractive femmes so far....
Maizu's going to go somewhere epic, and whether it will end in sacrifice or marriage, I don't think it will end disappointingly.

I'm not denying that it WILL definitely happen, but how long it lasts and how deep it goes remains to be seen. And I could definitely picture Mai helping Zuko through his mother's disappearance and having Zuko's banishment be the source of her whole attitude now. But it's not like Mike and Bryan to just have all that obvious Zutara foreshadowing amount to nothing. Something's bound to happen at some point.

Actually, I think it is....[hides]
A lot of it is just taken out of proportion. Aang has quite a few moments with Zuko that could be "shipping" if they were to be of separate genders. Who says that foils can't be opposite genders? Or rather, rivals?
Personally, I think that Toko is more likely than Zutara in whatever way....one of the cutest things about the Toko concept (yes, there is quite an age gap, but it's still within the parameters of the five-year rule) is the fact that Toph is blind. It makes it so that she can't see Zuko without his scar--I, personally, like the idea of those two meeting up a lot more than Katara and Zuko. Even if they don't ship, I think that a Toph and Zuko meeting would be really, really cool and helpful. If Mai was involved, it would be all the better--I can picture Mai being Toph's "big sister"....a three-way meeting with them would be kind of cute and beneficial. But, again, Toph already had her tea session with Iroh.

Toko is almost as weird as Sokka and Azula. And that's really saying something. OH! And if you want some REAL shipping proof of Zutara, check this out!: [link] Read Katara's description. This is from Nick Magazine, which is OBVIOUSLY a credible source because it's made by Nick itself!

I don't think Azula has much control over her temper. Actually, I don't think we've even seen her temper yet. So far, it just looks to me like she's been killing people because it's fun for her. I bet when she's really angry, she won't be so calm and collected about it. After all, that's Mai's job!
