Description …and it's a good thing.

Telling someone they can be whatever they want is like telling Charlie he's going to find the Golden Ticket. It rarely happens. If and when it does happen, the results are disastrous for 80% of the people (notably Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, and Mike Teavee) who find the tickets.

On the other hand, telling people they can do whatever they want is entirely different.
We never are anything. I'm not a social media manager, designer, web developer, student, or wrestler. I manage social media accounts, design stuff, build websites, studied (in school and out), and wrestled (in high school and at the D1 level). The identities are transient, but the outputs and knowledge gained are concrete.

Coping with my identities as a student and as a wrestler ending was difficult, completely unnecessarily. What I learned through those experiences is what's really valuable. Do and make as diligently as you can. The results (and identities that accompany them) will arrive accordingly.

I hope this post doesn't come off as preachy, but I'm ending on this note: Do what you can to maximize your value added every day. Whether you're improving something bigger than yourself is irrelevant. Progress is an identity.

If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it. Anything you want to do, do it. Want to change the world? There's nothing to it.
