TIE fighters have no shields, no hyperdrive, no life support... Let's face it, they're ####ed before they even take off

Except a skilled pilot can make up for those disadvantages. Hence, the ties should have kicked rebel butt with all their elite training.

Have you seen how poor the visibility is in a TIE? With no side windows, and those solar arrays blocking out any peripheral vision, if the target's not right in front of you, you have to rely on sensors alone to pick up incoming threats. Plus, those arrays make for a huge target...
True, TIE fighters have the advantage when it comes to speed, and the narrower field of fire allows for more accuracy over distance (X-Wing blasters are wide apart, and need to have a point of convergence where the beams meet, anything closer or further from the convergence point stands a chance of escaping the blasts), but the physical limitations placed on the pilot, however skilled they might be, will still be a major disadvantage. Plus they have no droid support

As far as I could tell in Epsode IV, the standard TIEs didn't even have a targeting system for it's twin cannons.
Only Darth Vader's TIE Advanced had it.
