Description At this point, i was out all night, twice in a row, and was getting spooked by my own presence in the temporary fairground; stalking around the shuttered facades of carny attractions and ticketbooths. And that damned haunted house in the background, about as still as Nico in the center of the Exploding Plastic Inevitable, was giving me bad vibes. All for the adoration of rain-wet children's rides.

Minolta 202 manual camera
Kodak Plus-x, 120 speed film
about 3 minute's exposure, i believe...
probably at 4 am or something.
hand-developed & printed, baby.

Nice lighting and I like the grain adds contrast

Oo I love finding gems like this. As someone has already mentioned, it has a scale model feel about it. Everything down to the lighting is reminiscent of 1960's childrens tv programmes.
Cool work!

I can understand how it would be spooky in the fairgrounds. The shot captured it well. Keep it up.

Great shot and well worth going out into the night I'm sure. The composition of lines and light is nice. And ofcorse, you can't beat developing your own work as well.

wow, I think this is my favorite of all of the carnival photos you've been submitting recently...it's just something about all of those glistening waterdrops and the scenery in the background...almost looks surreal

extremely soft tones you have here. it almost looks like the background is a backdrop. but over all i think its super good. super

Many thanks, man.
Yeah, someone else mentioned the " backdrop" appearence, and i do see what you guys mean. Probably the misty rain at the time + the glare from the lamp post + flat facade to the haunted house = two dimensionality. That's my evaluation i guess.

ah damn i hit submit too soon!! i notice your photos consistently have a dreamlike quality to them. i don't know if it has to do with your exposure or the time you photograph but it is a really great technique. also someone mentioned it earlier but this does remind me a lot of silent hill, only less psychotic!

sweaterwoolf In reply to HedFire [2003-10-22 21:12:14 +0000 UTC]

Most of these photos are waaaaay over exposed, then printed for longer-than-usual times to compensate; that might do it, or it could just be the mentality of the guy with the camera...
Anyhow, thanks a whole mess for the words & favoriting. Muchas gracias, man.
(i guess i'm happy this isn't a psychotic photo)

Ace man! Ace!
Lots of atmosphere... makes me wish I could do photography like that. Poop.
But you at least inspire me to some artwork stuff

Kind of reminds me of Silent Hill 3 in a way, with that whole haunted fairground theme. (that game so freaked me out, I loved it!)

Heh. You really know how to scratch that spooky itch eh?

That background almost looks backdropish, and as for those faux-motorcycles, I'm in love.

I got's that spookea feeva.
It was great being surrounded by all these child-sized contraptions, but i think those mini-choppers were the best things there. I'm pleased with how you described the background, i didn't think of putting it that way before. Thanks!

damn, that picture is just brilliant. maybe cause everything i shiny from being wet but it looks like a photo of a scale model to me. i love the atmosphere in this too, must of been really creepy, what with all thsoe horror movies and scooby doo episodes based abandoned amusement parks. funnel cakes are great though.
