Mermaid AU
Worldbuilding:

-The merfolk are mostly carnivorous, but they are omnivores
-Merfolk get along well with just about everyone/species, except pirates
-There are many hybrids descended from the merfolk, most have human heritage
-The merfolk hate pirates and pirates don’t care much for the merfolk either
-There is a main black market of sorts where (mostly) pirates and criminals gather to buy/sell or offer illegal things/services
-Pirates capture and sell the merfolk at said black market, dead or alive
-Merfolk are either dismembered and have their parts sold to those who practice magic (usually the older merfolk are subjected to this) or they are sold alive to corrupt individuals as ‘pets’, ‘guard dogs’, ‘entertainment’, etc.

Merfolk:

Note: Like some species of fish, all merfolk can live in both saltwater and freshwater environments without problems

Northern merfolk:
-They have much longer lifespans than humans/most humanoids
-Northerns can grow to massives sizes, much bigger than humans
-They are incredibly strong compared to their counterparts
-Tend to have very dull and monochrome colors and do not have beautiful fins
- Are extremely durable and can last an ungodly amount of time out of the water if they happen to find themselves stuck on land or the deck of a ship
-They can survive both cold and hot temperatures despite originating from the cold waters of the North

Black Market info:
-When captured, Northerns are usually used as ‘guard dogs’ or gladiator style-like entertainment when they are not being used for parts in magic practices.
-Northerners are usually the lowest in price both when in parts for magic purposes or alive

Southern merfolk:
-Lifespans are longer than humans/most humanoids but not as long as the Northerns
-They are around the same size as humans, sizes will vary
-Southerners are known for their beautiful fins and stunning colors/patterns
-They are not as durable as the Northerns and will not nearly last long if they find themselves stuck out of the water
-Can survive cool-hot water temperatures but can’t handle cold temperatures well as they originate from hotter climates

Black Market info:
-When captured, Southerners will either be kept as ‘pets’ by egotistical, powerful, corrupt individuals as they are valued for their stunning fins and colors/patterns or used for unspeakable acts when they are not being used for parts in magic practices.
-Southerners are usually the highest in price both when in parts for magic purposes, when especially alive

Hybrid merfolk (NorthernxSouthern):
-There is a high chance of these merfolk inheriting mix-match of their parents’ genetic traits and a 50%-50% chance of them inheriting an even middle ground of their parents’ traits
-Most hybrids can last much longer than Southerners if they find themselves stuck out of the water but not as long as Northerns

Black Market info:
-When captured, their fates will usually depend on their appearance when they are not being used for parts in magic practices.
-Hybrid merfolk are somewhere in between the Northern and Southern when it comes to pricing but will sometimes fetch higher prices when certain requirements are met

-Mer!Tony (male) and his genderbend counterpart for those you like the ladies more
-Tony is a hybrid of a Northern (father) and Southern (mother) merfolk in this AU.
He is considered to be very beautiful by merfolk standards and valuable as well by the "Market" for not only his beautiful fins/colors but his large size and durability inherited from his parents
-Tony is still, in a sense, a prince in this AU of a large tribe (will look for a better word) of Northern, Southern and hybrid/other merfolk
-Is still very adventurous and friendly towards others but has a strong disliking for pirates from what he heard growing up and from what he's witnessed first hand
--Tony is stubborn and at times stupidly fearless, which will result in him lashing out/fighting back to protect himself or others even if the odds are stacked against him

3:
-HoodSi is the captain of his own ship and crew with two first mates consisting of his two closest friends, Syvion and Namaka (Syv is more of the first mate but don't tell Nam)
-Much like his canon counterpart, HoodSi is still a heavy drinker and smoker as a way of coping with something that happened in his past (can't go into any further detail on what, sorry!)
-Charming bastard that one, drunk or not
-HoodSi very much enjoys the thrill of being a pirate and is excellent in combat, with or without a weapon
