Hey, sorry if this sounds like spam but I'm just doing a survey on Mass Effect art for a uni assignment I'm doing. I wish to understand why you (if you have created fan-art or intend to, or if you have some feelings on the issue) create fan-art for this amazing narrative? Do you feel a sense of duty to uphold the relationships or story that Bioware first invisioned? Is it a desire to further build upon the emotional relationships that you face throughout the game? What compels this reaction of artistic expressionism? Anything you say that I use ill make sure to quote and give you full credit. Also if you give me permission to use your work as an example I'll make sure to give you credit for that too.

I never thought about it very much. I don't feel any duty of any kind toward the game. In this particular case, I didn't even know much thing about the story of the game or even the character. It was months before the release of Mass Effect 2 and the first appearance of the character was just leaked. The design, the voice, the way the character was animated and the atmosphere really impressed me and inspired me. So I wanted to draw something. In that case, there was also a challenge. I wasn't used to do lightings like that and I tried some new techniques.
But most of the time, I simply draw what the game makes me imagine, what is unsaid or what I want to reinterpret. That's also a way to show to people what I like and, to be honest, making fanarts is the only way to make people come see your gallery on deviantArt when you're an unknown artist.

Well its an awesome picture sir, and your response was great too, thank you very much for helping, I've finally finished the assignment which has given me time to respond to everyone, including yourself. He really is a cool Guy - first I thought "Great...we get another A-Hole like Zaeed that Probably kills people just for fun" - but then you get this really deep and likeable Character. Putting him in the Game was a Great Idea.

I never thought he would be like that... He really doesn't look like the sort of guy who "kills for fun". And he never had been presented like that.
By the way, I don't think Zaeed kills people "just for fun". He's not my favorite character, but I don't see him that way.

Zaeed was the Boss and Founder of the Blue Suns - that kinda makes me think that he at least isn't really a good Guy, he just is there cause the Illusive Man paid him to do. If someone would pay him more and told him to kill Shepard he would try it.
I din't now everyhting about Thane before you meet im in the Game, just that he is an Assassine, so I wasn't expecting someone that nice.

It only means that Zaeed kills for money, not "for fun"... If you listen to his stories, sometimes you can see he does have moral principes. But of course if he was paid to kill Shepard, he would certainly do it.
Sure, when you just know that Thane is an assassin, you can't expect him to be THAT nice. But, once again, an assassin kills for money, it doesn't mean he finds it "fun".

Okay...maybe I went a little overboard with Zaeed - but he's really not the Type of Guy you want to be with you in a Battle of Life or Death. He is no one you can really trust.
About the "Fun Killing" - there I think of Ezio in Assassins Creed 2. Okay...the Templars killed his Dad and Brothers and somehow traumatized his Mom - but he still really enjoys killing them. That doesn't mean I don't like him but thats the Point.

That's absolutely spectacular. I'm actually just beginning to use mediums such as pastels, colored pencils, and watercolors, myself. Still need to get the anatomy down and all that, though, so it might be a year until I'm able to really get anything decent enough to post.
How did you get so good at anatomy? Did you just practice a lot? It seems to be working for me. I do about three-four anatomic exercises a day, and am improving gradually.

I'm not really an exemple to follow. I never really worked hard... I just never stopped drawing since I'm a little girl.
So yeah... Just practice. And observation, I would say. And show your work to people. Sometimes it's not easy to see clearly the mistakes you have done when you've worked a long time on a drawing.

Yeah, that's definitely true. I like to put my drawings up to a mirror. For some reason, it tears away what you -think- your drawing looks like, only leaving what the lines actually show on the paper. I've been drawing since I was little, too, but then again, I'm younger than you are. I've been drawing since I was 9 or so. I'm only 16, now.

Huge Mass Effect fan. Thane is probably the most threatening yet most calm character in the entire game. One of my favorites. Great work! I know he's a difficult character to draw (considering the massive detail of each individual scale, similar to Grunt's horns).
