Description
Third in my series and the third Bond, Roger Moore. Ironically Moore held the role of Bond longer than any other actor, 12 years from 1973 to 1985. For this tribute I once again used a gun barrel background and a shot of Moore. Once again I surrounded him with the titles of his films and finished things off with a "Roger Moore is" logo. Ironically I couldn't find a good jpeg of the title FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, so that one is a self made title as well. Next wallpaper will feature my favorite Bond, Timothy Dalton. My dad got me into Moore's Bond movies, and I will be eternally grateful. Moore was the best Bond in my opinion. I love the humor he brought to the character!

It's not that I don't like him, he's just not one of my major faves. As to why, it's cause he was the furthest from Ian Fleming's James Bond (I'm a fan of the original books). Plus he was in most of the worst Bond films in my opinion.

He was Bond for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long...He started getting long in the tooth after Moonraker.

He kept trying to quit after that movie believe it or not. The stories of why the producers kept paying him more money to come back each film are interesting.

If he wanted to quit, I'm sure he would have. But, from what I read about, it seemed to be a game he would always play with the producers. He would say he did not want to come back, but ended up making his way back; probably because he knew he would be out of work if he did so. It was The Saint and Bond that made him famous. Sadly, Roger Moore is only known for playing Bond to the general audiences. Connery however, would have backed out in a flash since it took United Artists what was then a large amount of money to lure him back. Connery only came back in 1971 because UA gave him what was then a record $1.25 million dollar salary which he in turn donated to the Scottish Educational Fund.

Both FOR YOUR EYES ONLY and OCTOPUSSY were supposed to be the start of a new Bond. The opening teaser of FOR YOUR EYES was in fact written to introduce a new Bond, hence the visiting of Tracy's grave. OCTOPUSSY went even further in that Broccoli had all but cast American actor James Brolin as the new Bond and even had him do screen tests with the actor who played the part of Bond's sidekick Veejay. Ironically it was the announcement that Connery was returning to Bond in NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN that torpedoed Brolin's chance at the part. Broccoli didn't want to pit a new Bond against the original in a Box Office war (this was when the movies were supposed to come out within weeks of each other in 1983), and felt that audiences familiarity with Moore in the role would be crucial.

Ah! Well, since Moore is British, I can respect Broccoli's decision. It would have been a disgrace to have an American as Bond. Even though not all the Bond's were British, hence Sir Sean Connery (Scottish), Pierce Brosnan (Irish) and George Lazenby (Australian), they still were not American thus making them real Bonds. Hell, Pierce Brosnan is my favorite Bond and he's Irish!

In fact in the course of the series they have managed to have a Bond from every corner of the British Empire except New Zealand. And believe it or not Brolin is not the only American who's been under consideration for the role. In fact when Lazenby quit after OHMSS, Broccoli and Saltzman hired the American actor John Gavin (he played the boyfriend in PSYCHO) to take over the role. He was replaced when United Artists demanded they get Connery back for DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. Other Americans who have been offered the role over the years are Adam West (after DIAMONDS, before Moore was cast) and of all people Burt Reynolds. West I could almost see doing it, (he turned them down saying Bond should always be played by a Brit), Reynolds was only under consideration cause United Artists kept saying the Bond movies would make better US box office with an American lead. One American actor who the critic Roger Ebert thought could play Bond was Denzel Washington.

The idea of a black man playing Bond has come up a few times recently, the actor from RESIDENT EVIL 1 (guy who got sliced up by the laser shield) has been mentioned as a candidate.

Yeah, but since he (Colin Salmon) was Charles Robinson, it wouldn't really work out. He was already established. However, if it weren't for that, he would make good for the first black Bond.
