Overall

As far as I can judge, the picture overall is very attractive. The composition and framing are classical, very thoughtful and nice indeed. The whole mood of picture is also understandable and easy to get.

Nevertheless, I must confess the frame seems very "nervous" to me. A lot of contrast borders with different width, some outset effect - all this quite distracts the attention from the picture itself. This is, I suppose, inacceptible for screen graphics, though it can be very nice for printing the picture and hanging it up on the wall. But I reckon most people who want to have a print would prefer to choose the frame themselves, depending on their tastes. Some will maybe prefer passe-partouts, and some will not want to have a thick light border cause' this won't fit their walls. Think about it.

Also, I personally have a very great monitor and can assure you that the shadows are obviously overburned a little. It will be difficult to make a good print saving all the picture details, and most people will se very, very dark water on their screens indeed.

All-in-all, I would mark this work as undoubtedly worth attention and admiration, but I'd like to point that there is no need in such a heavy bordering.

1st of all, thank you very much for your time to write this critique!

You are right about the frame I think, it's a bit distracting I admit.(this rhymes )
I consider changing it. As you can see, I haven't submit a print to this deviation.. if I do so, it will be frameless.

I too have a perfectly good monitor. I have seen this work on a professional monitor and it looks quite alright. The water is very dark green indeed, but that is because of the mood you are reffering to. This is in my opinion what makes this picture good - the contrast. I don't know about how it will look on prints, you are probably right about that. Thank you.

very nice- the lack of saturation adds a mood I would not expect from Venice. reminds me of the book 'death in Venice' (which I do not recommend btw)
